January Newsletter

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. We were very excited to welcome all of our students back to school this morning! It is always so much fun to hear about everyone's exciting holiday activities and adventures.

Students and staff will celebrate the first Friday of the month on January 4th with "Crazy Hair Day".

Our next PTA meeting will be on Wednesday, January 9th in the commons at 7:00 pm.

The Chester County Intermediate Unit will be offering STEM Saturdays January 12th through April 13th. STEM Saturdays will include student-centered activities that involve the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Click here for additional details and registration information.

French Creek will host our annual Science Fair Open House on Wednesday, January 16th from 6:00-7:30 PM. French Creek families are welcome to visit the open house to view all of our students' science research projects.

OJR schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 21st in observance Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Is your son or daughter interested in learning French, German, Latin or Spanish? The High School World Language Department is offering an opportunity to begin, or continue learning, a second language. High School students will lead the lessons and incorporate songs, games, and culture! Students will have access to a Google Classroom with vocabulary lists and Quizlets.

The program will offer seven sessions beginning February 14th through April 4th.

Children will be bussed from the elementary schools to the High School.

Parents will be responsible for picking up students promptly at 4:30 pm.

We are very fortunate at French Creek to have a number of parent volunteers and staff members who organize and chaperone after school activities for our students. (Lego Club, Drama Club, Garden Club, Intramurals, Robotics, Odyssey of the Mind, K-Kids, Lion Cubs, RUN 101, etc.)

Please be mindful of pickup times for your child. It is important that we are respectful of our volunteers/club advisors and that your children are picked up on time.

French Creek will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge January 28th through February 1st. The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that promotes improved school climate and increased student engagement. The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness possible. Students will be provided a checklist of 50 kind acts to complete during the week. Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will open on February 1st at 9:00 AM. Please visit our district's website for additional information or contact Mrs. Alexandra Lewis, our FC Attendance Clerk, at 610-469-5710.

We are still in need of several volunteers to assist with the French Creek Annual 24 Math Competition! If you are wondering what 24 is, or what the job of the volunteer will be, please see the attached information sheet.

The competition will be held on Friday, March 29th.

Tournament times will be:

• 8:45-10:15-6th grade
  

• 10:25-11:55-4th grade
  

• 12:45-2:15-5th grade

Reading Olympics still has a few spots available for the sixth grade team. Please encourage your child to pick up a registration form in the library. The event will be held in early March. Please contact Mrs. Fazioli at cfazioli@ojrsd.com for more information.

Birthday Books are available for donation to the library collection. These books can also make a unique and meaningful gift to be donated in anyone’s honor for any occasion. This yearly recognition program, sponsored by State Farm and the National Liberty Museum, honors outstanding educators in the Delaware Valley. Click here for award information and registration form. The nomination form is brief and there are three different categories for nomination:

First Friday Fun Day on February 1st~ Celebrate the 100th Day of School by dressing as a 100 year old.

PTA Sweetheart Ball~Join us with someone special on Friday, February 1st from 6:30-8:30 PM.

PTA Meeting~ Join us for the February PTA meeting on Wednesday, February 6th in the commons from 9:30-11:00 AM.

School Closing~There will be no school for students on Friday, February 15th and Monday, February 18th.
