How was school today?
As I was sitting at the state principals' convention this week, I began to wonder about how we speak to our children about school. I'm as guilty as anyone that when I ask my daughter how school was today, she responds with fine or OK or great. And that's it. We should always take the opportunity for the next step. Ask why. Or ask them what they did for someone else. Or ask them what their favorite part of the day was, besides lunch or recess. I promise to start having these conversations after school today. And if you think about it after your conversation, send an email to the teacher about your conversation.

Why do we go outside?
I am a firm believer in getting students outside, whenever possible, before school and during lunch recess. Getting outside allows us to get fresh, clean air, to move around, to swing, to climb on the monkey bars, to play gaga ball, and various other activities. Standing around inside doesn't allow us to get our body moving. It's important to be active and it better prepares us for learning. Check out the visual below to see my point.
School resource officer assembly
On Tuesday, February 13th, we will be having two assemblies, one for 5th and 6th grade (1:10-2:00) and one for 7th and 8th grade (12:10-1:00). Our students will be hearing from Sheriff Gary Kelly, a school resource officer from Sussex-Hamilton. He will be here discussing the safe use of Social Media, Smart Phones, as well as the repercussions of misuse.
