From ACT testing in the High School to classroom projects in our Elementary School! This publication will be sent out twice a month to give a great snap shot into what is happening in the Stockbridge School District. Please feel free to share this with all your friends and families to help showcase our wonderful school district!
Elementary School
This week in 5th grade, students are learning about our Watery Planet. Through different experiments with the hydrosphere, students will discover the cause of the Dust Bowl. The students are also reviewing fractions in math and learning about different types of figurative language which they hope to incorporate into poetry! For reading, the 5th graders are joining the 4th graders for Greek Week! Students are reading and analyzing various myths, completing a group project and presenting, and enjoying some tasty Greek snacks!
All Elementary grades are working on their ball and stick skills in Phy Ed. Most grades are doing hockey skill work and hockey games. The younger students are working ball and stick skills and hockey lead-up games.
In 4K, the students are working on number identification and writing numbers 1-20. In science they are learning about polar bears and how to stay warm in the cold. The students continue to work on being the best friends that they can be.
Middle School
- The Middle School Math classes have been busy growing their math knowledge! 8th grade mathematics students are working to understand that solutions to a system of two linear equations in two variables correspond to points of intersection of their graphs because points of intersection satisfy both equations simultaneously. In 7th grade mathematics, students will make connections and explain their reasoning to their work with ratios, rates and proportions. And finally, our 6th grade math students make sense of quantities and their relationships in problem situations.
All of the middle schoolers have just finished creating an entire city from their imagination with flags, maps, rules, culture, etc. Middle school students have started a unit on Dinosaurs, where they are learning about fossils and how old the earth is. Each student is selecting a prehistoric era and researching all that took place during their time frame.
In Phy Ed the Middle School's major focus is on hockey skills and games. The students really enjoy floor hockey but would love the opportunity to play on an outside ice rink!
High School
- High School Biology just wrapped up it's DNA unit learning about all the secrets contained in our genetic code. They will be finishing out the semester with the last unit learning about genetics. In physics, the students applied the concepts of friction and energy by building mousetrap cars that they ran down the hallway of school. Integrated science has now moved on to our life science unit and currently are learning about animal adaptations that allow them to thrive in their environment.
- In World History the students are finishing up their unit on the Renaissance. They watched a 3-D version of the Sistine Chapel. The Civics students are working on an "Influence in the Government and Propaganda" unit. And finally History Through Film just finished the true story of the "Amistad."
- High School English Classes are studying figurative language and other poetic devices. Students will be reading and analyzing poetry. Students will be writing their own poems in which they will use some of the poetic devices and figurative language that they're studying.
