Nurse's Corner- Mrs. Jennifer Brown, CPS Nurse
Happy Spring!! Now just if this weather would be spring like.....
Please think about having your child keep an extra change of clothes in their backpack or locker as the weather is changing. The kids are outside for recess as much as possible but sometimes there are puddles and the students fall and get wet! I usually see wet pants, socks and shoes.
Don't forget that all second grade students need to have dental forms turned in to the office by May 15. There are quite a few that are still outstanding. I sent an email on March 3, 2022 to all parents if the form is missing.
There are a few kindergarten students who do not have all paperwork turned in as well. I have sent emails about the missing documents.
The COVID guidelines are still available on the Central District website. If you have any questions about your child staying home, testing and when they are able to return please reach out to me. You can call or send an email.
There are now other viruses being seen so PLEASE remind your child/children to cover their coughs and sneezes! This is also important as allergy season is upon us.
All parents of 1st grade children......Your child will need a dental exam form turned in for their upcoming 2nd grade year. These can be turned in now and will count for their 2nd grade exam.
We are almost through the year and I just want to say thanks to the parents/guardians of ALL the primary students for being so great to work with through the year!!
PTO Update- Mrs. Brielle Meinders, PTO President
I hope everyone had a great Spring Break. PTO has been working hard sorting through all of the pastry forms, and Central really did an awesome job! We don’t have an exact number yet, but you helped to raise over $12,000! That’s amazing and you should be super proud of all the sales you made. Don’t tell CIS, but CPS sold a bunch more. ;)
Pickup will be April 13th after school, with an exact timeframe coming home in an email.
Our next meeting is on Thursday, April 7th at 7pm in the CIS Library.

March Newsletter from Interventionists
Welcome back from Spring Break! It is so hard to believe we are already in the fourth quarter of the school year! While it is exciting to think about summer coming, there is still a lot of work to do in the last quarter of school in reading and math! Continue working every night at home to keep the learning going! Let’s finish strong together! Here are some ideas and tips for reading and math at home.
Math Facts:
Make math facts fun!! Move away from the flash cards!!
Bring out the playing cards and play a game of war. Flip 2 cards and add, subtract or multiply to get an answer and then the highest number wins. You can work on Making 10 with a good old game of GO FISH. Go on a product scavenger hunt around the house. Give your 3rd grader a product and have them find 2 factors around the house that multiply together and equal the product. Give your 1st or 2nd Grader a sum to solve an addition problem and have them find the addends to match the sum around the house. Go outside and roll some dice, add or multiply them together and then create an activity to match the answer. Have them shoot that many baskets, do some jumping jacks, bounce the ball, ect. Another fun activity to help with multiplication facts is a skip counting hopscotch. The weather is getting nicer, let’s start making math fun outside!
Reading Tips
Does reading to my child count?
This is a question I always hear when I am talking to parents! Every child comes home at night with the homework of “Read for ___ minutes.” This homework is incredibly important. We know that the amount of time spent reading has a direct correlation with a child’s reading success. What this doesn’t mean is that only the child reading counts toward that time! When you read to your child, they are being exposed to words that they might not be ready to read yet. They are listening to what fluent reading (and talking) sounds like. They are able to think about what is happening in the story without having to remember that plot while figuring out words. There are so many amazing skills that you are modeling for your child when you read to them! So to answer your question….YES!! Reading to your child counts as reading! Here are some ideas to mix up your routine:
You read a page, then have your child read a page.
You read a page and then have your child try to read it the same way you did.
Have your child find the words they know on the page and let them read those words.
Assign “parts” like in a play and have your child be one of the characters.
Use a different voice for each character in the story.
Read in the dark with a flashlight.
The bottom line is…make it fun!
Art Corner- Ms. Lacey Gleason
Kindergarten finished their Paul Klee cats and are now working on geometric circus seals. We have been practicing our shapes and different kinds of lines.
First grade students recently began an artist study on American artist Wayne Thiebaud. The students are creating giant bowls of ice cream with lots of fun details and toppings. We are applying what we have learned from a previous project and adding highlights and texture.
Second graders are working on making underground ant tunnel drawings for Earth Day. We are learning about scale.
In third grade we are currently working on a few patriotic projects for our art show to go along with what they are working on in music class.
A Little Note from Music- Mrs. Kathryn Cunningham
The CPS Spring Concerts are right around the corner! We have all been working on our concert music. Students have their songs posted in their music google classroom if they want to practice at home. **The location of our concerts and a few times have changed.** All the concerts will now be held in Holford Gym at CIS. See the updated times below.
