Project Lead The Way $10,000 Grants
The PLTW Pre Engineering program includes two semester classes: Automation & Robotics and Design & Modeling. Lakeside Junior High has taught these courses for several years. However, 20-21 is the first year for the PLTW Gateway (6th - 8th grade) courses to be offered at GJHS with Mrs. Tracie Smith and DTSOI with Ms. Emily Cook.
The grant will enable VEX V5 Robotics Kits to be purchased for students. Each Robotics Kit includes a V5 control system, four smart motors, two sensors, over two hundred robot parts, a V5 claw, steel structures, STEM lab lessons and free programming software. Each Robotics Kit costs $649 plus tax.
The PLTW junior high courses prepare students for Pre Engineering courses at the high school level. Both DTSOI and SHS offer PLTW courses in Pre Engineering. Mr. Ryan Kelly, DTSOI offers classes in Principles of Engineering and Intro to Engineering Design. The Springdale High School Engineering & Architecture Academy (Instructors: Rebecca Wallis, Jeff Holland, Alex Chen and Duncan Luke) offer classes in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Digital Electronics, Engineering Design & Development, Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, and Robotics Levels 1-6.

Senior Ayden Coffel is preparing for the Autodesk Inventor certification. Mr. Duncan Luke is the CAD Instructor and Skills USA Adviser at SHS.
$70k Grant
New computers and equipment will be purchased for students. Ms. Rebecca Wallis and Mr. Jeff Holland wrote the grant and are busy preparing the lab space for the new editions to the program. The CIM class is a level three course for students in their junior or senior year.

AP Computer Science Principles is a year-long course which offers a multidisciplinary, creative and fun approach to learning about computing.
Students will use current technologies to create programs for both self-expression and problem solving. App Inventor allows students to write mobile apps for their phones. As ane AP project, students create an app of their choice that will assist a user in an educational or work environment.

Five teams from Springdale High School participated in the CyberPatriot Round 3 Competition on Friday, January 22, 2021. These teams were tasked with finding and securing virtual operating system vulnerabilities in Windows 10, Windows Server 2019 and Ubuntu 19. Through this competition, the students have gained invaluable skills and knowledge in cybersecurity vulnerabilities. We are very proud of all of our students. They spent numerous hours preparing for this competition.The following is a list of team names and the members of each team. Mrs. Josefina Perez and Mrs. Kathy Johnson are the CyberPatriot Advisers and Computer Science teachers at SHS.

Business & Industry Training Scholarships
The training includes electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, motor controls, and robotics. Students were selected from the JAG - Jobs for Arkansas Graduates course at Springdale High School which is taught by Ms. Karma Weiss and Ms. April Reed.

Students interested in learning how to build cabinets and more should enroll in Fundamentals of Construction. After completing the Fundamentals course then students should enroll in Intermediate CNC then Advanced CNC.
Cabinet Installation
The CNC machine rotates tools to specific axis' as determined by the machine programmer using the CAD software. First a designer will draw the model of the item to be built. Then a code will be entered into the machine to make the design.The "G" Code will make the model come to life.
OSHA 10 Certification
Students receive an OSHA Completion Card at the end of training. This is provided free of charge to all students in the Construction Fundamentals course at HBHS. All junior high and high school students in Springdale also have the opportunity to obtain free OSHA 10 certification if enrolled in a Trade and Industry course.

Ninth Grade Survey of Agriculture students are getting to experience agricultural mechanics opportunities. Students gain experiences that can also lead to Ag Mechanic courses at SHS. Students also gain valuable career skills.

Ms. Patti Priest teaches the Veterinary Science class which provides students the opportunity to obtain their Vet Assistant certification.

Students are able to obtain the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification which is a national multi-species quality assurance program for youth ages 8 to 21 with a focus on food safety, animal well-being and character development.
Har-Ber Horse Team
Southern Illinois University hosted the virtual FFA horse judging contest and included a virtual campus tour. Students evaluated and ranked horses, based on breed characteristics, conformation and performance. Training sessions were available online by teh SIU Center for Teaching Excellence.

Erica Ambriz, Joyce Hererra and Zelmy Zambrano will compete in the Chapter Service Project Display and Portfolio event. Allesandra Chavez and Allisa Sanders will compete in the Professional Presentation in which they will make an oral presentation about issues concerning Family and Consumer Sciences. The proceeds of the sale will help students attend the FCCLA district, state and national competitions this year. Mrs. Lisa Welton is the Culinary Instructor and FCCLA Adviser at DTSOI.
Delicious Desserts
Senior Madelyn Thorpe developed a dessert recipe for a Springdale School Board event. She is enrolled in Food Safety & Nutrition and Culinary Arts I at DTSOI.
Madelyn was responsible for the plating of the chocolate pavlovas with cream that was also topped with blackberries, pomegranate and mint. Another dessert included a lemon sponge cake with vanilla bean buttercream, raspberry coulis, topped with fresh berries and mint as pictured above.
Hoppin John
DTSOI Culinary and Agriculture classes took a virtual field trip around the world to explore cultural celebrations of the New Year. Then they all participated in making a batch of Hoppin’ John.
Rhubarb is a winter crop and students discussed the history, how it grows, and the culinary applications. Many of the students had never heard of this crop and enjoyed making strawberry rhubarb pies. Ms. LaNese Mahan is the Agriculture instructor and FFA Adviser at DTSOI.
