Staffing
Mrs Sharen Jack will be taking leave for the duration of 2016. You may still see her around the school as she will be teaching casually in some of our classes. We wish Mrs Jack all the best for the year ahead.
At the end of last year, a panel was held to fill two new vacant positions within the Support Unit. Miss Nikita Marwood was successful in gaining one of these permanent positions. We also welcome the other successful candidate, Miss Emma Langdon. Congratulations to both Miss Marwood and Miss Langdon, and welcome to Banksmeadow PS!
We have one vacant position on our staff that is scheduled to be filled permanently later this term. For Term 1, Ms Cassandra Smith has been employed as the temporary teacher of Year 3. Parents of this class will be notified of any changes that occur. Ms Smith worked casually at the school last year and is a valuable addition to our staff. Welcome Ms Smith!
Assistant Principals
Mrs Roxanne Bragg will continue in the role of Assistant Principal for the Preschool and Early Stage One.
Mrs Annie Whittaker will relieve in the role of Assistant Principal for Stage One while Mrs Jack is on leave this year.
Mr Brendan Murphy will take on the role of Assistant Principal for Stages Two and Three.
Mrs Liz Waldron will be the Assistant Principal for the Support Unit on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Miss Tina Fahey on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Swimming Carnival
The 2016 swimming carnival will be held on Tuesday 2nd February (Week 2) for those students in Years 3-6, and any student who turns 8 years old in Year 2. Many permission notes have still not been returned. Please return your child's note as soon as possible to ensure your child is able to attend the carnival.
Thank you to all those parents who have volunteered to help on the day. Mr Murphy will send a note home with your allocated role during Week 1. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact Mr Murphy.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 3. A note containing times and preference selections will be sent home with your child. Years 3-6 meetings will involve the class teacher, parent and student. Years 1-2 meetings will involve the class teacher and the parent. We encourage all parents to make an appointment to meet their child’s new teacher and set learning goals for the year ahead.
PE Programs
To enhance the PDHPE programs throughout our school in 2016, K-2 will be undertaking a skills program for Term 1, and Years 3-6 will take part in ‘Flip Gymnastics’. Notes will be distributed in Week 1 and payment is due by Friday 12th February. No student will be able to participate in these programs if they have not paid by the specified date.
BYOD Program
Banksmeadow Public School will be running the BYOD program for Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) again this year. We anticipate that the program will begin in either Week 3 or 4. A parent information afternoon/night will be held on Thursday 4th February in the 6M classroom. Information notes will be distributed to students in Week 1. Please don't hesitate to make an appointment with Mr Murphy if you are unable to make this information evening or would like any additional information.
Art Club
In Week 2, Mrs Whittaker will be sending out notes to those students interested in joining the Art Club. Art Club will begin in Week 4 and will be held during lunchtime each Wednesday.
Band, Dance & Guitar
The band, dance and guitar programs will continue to run this year. Starting dates for each of these programs will be confirmed this week and further information will be published in next week’s newsletter.
