Science Fair
Dear Students and Parents:
Exciting Science Fair news! It is time to start working on your Science Fair project. We are empowering students and parents to complete their self-chosen project at home. The Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2019. The Commitment Form is due back to the teacher by Friday, March 12, 2021.
The primary objective of this project is to have students approach a problem scientifically by:
- Asking questions and forming hypotheses
- Creating experiments to test those hypotheses
- Organizing data and drawing conclusions
- Writing about scientific research
- Presentation and judging from community members
We encourage students to pick topics that they are genuinely interested in, since they will be working on these projects for the next several weeks. Their project must be experimental. Your student must do 3-5 tests for the experiment to determine the answer to their question instead of just looking it up in a book.
As mentors to your students, we look forward to working with you to make this a valuable learning experience for your child. We appreciate your support on this important project. The school will provide all of the materials for the display board.
Sincerely,
Mentors of Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades
Parent Involvement
Parent Involvement forms were sent out, if you have not already turned these in and are interested in being involved with activities in the school feel free to reach out to Yuki Longest, ylongest@wilderschools.org.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Our parent - teacher conferences will be:
Wednesday, March. 17, 2021 and Thursday, March 18, 2021
Teachers will be sending home sign up papers soon. Parents who return their forms first will have first preference on times chosen for conferences. You will receive a letter confirming the time that is selected by the teacher. It is very important that you arrive to the classroom on time. If you are unable to attend, or are running late, you will need to reschedule with your child’s teacher. The teachers are looking forward to meeting with you during conferences.
There is no school on Friday, March 19. School will resume on Monday, March 29, 2021

Parents and Community:
Success, Success, Success! I know it seems hard to believe, but this is how we are measuring success during the pandemic.
- The year was opened with face to face instruction.
- Limited group disruption for in person learning.
- Parent choice to keep students home an learn on-line.
- Additional resources were made available for student mental health concerns.
- Additional resources for social emotional learning support.
- Smaller class-sizes
- Flexible bussing to support the districts reopening plan.
- Extra-curricular activities continued as scheduled.
I know this year has been very hard of parents, students and staff as we navigated the turbulent waters of the pandemic, but I am very proud of our parents who stepped up to the plate and provided the additional supports for students when students were learning from home or sent home who needed to quarantine.
Teachers were the day to day heroes who took on dynamic flexible shifts in the schedule to accommodate for the movement, or lack of movement, for students depending on the reopening stages of the state and district. They were relentless, resilient and prepared to assure the greatest success for all students.
Students were the most resilient of all. The staff has been so impressed at the engagement of student’s district-wide. From the first day of school, they supported and followed the safety protocols in place to allow for full day face to face instruction. At times they had flexibility to move and participate in multiple classes and other times they were limited to learning in just one location, that included eating lunch. Still they engaged and progressed with learning on a daily basis, attaining at least and 80% or better on all their work, and making progress to complete a year’s worth of work/learning in a year. We celebrate with our student their success with learning.

Counselor Corner
Hello from our School Counselor, Ms. Loera
Hello, my name is Maria Loera.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to be the counselor for the Wilder School District. My priority is the emotional well being of all students. I spend most of my time helping students manage emotions and learn interpersonal skills. Students can easily schedule an appointment to see me by emailing me. I also have an open door policy, which allows students the flexibility of stopping by at their convenience. Along with individual counseling I also offer all students the opportunity to participate in group counseling. Currently we are running a drug prevention group for high school students and a self-esteem group for middle school girls along with ongoing support with grief and stress and anxiety.
- Some of my duties include:
- Short-term counseling to students,
- referrals for long term counseling,
- classroom lessons,
- help plan for post secondary options,
I can be reached at mloera@wilderschools.org or by calling 208-337-7400 x1137

Athletics
Girl's Basketball
First, I would like to congratulate Jolee (Lopez) Perez on her selection to 1ST Team all-Conference and Kimberly Arias for receiving an Honorable Mention selection.
The Wilder girls finished this year with an 8-10 record which matches last year’s record for wins. Girls started out strong but just couldn’t get the wins in the second half of the season and ended with a 6-game losing streak. Unfortunately, we did not make the district tournament this year, but we were able to beat the Notus Pirates. Playing against the Pirates has always been a huge challenge not just physically but also mentally. According to the records, last time we had beaten them was back in 2007-2008 season.
This year we had a great group of seniors leading the way and they will surely be missed next season; wish I could have them for one more year. I am looking forward to next season with the group of girls returning. I feel that if they put in the work during summer, we should have a great chance to not only make the district tournament but advance far.
Looking forward to the 2021-2022 basketball season.
-Coach Johnny
Boy's Basketball
The outcome of this season was not what we expected but we know how lucky we are to have had a season. It’s tough knowing that our seniors didn’t have a chance to play in the District Tournament and have the opportunity to play for a State Title. Not knowing how the season would go didn’t stop the team from working hard everyday. We were led by our core group of seniors, Jose Leon, Cody Walker, Jacob Cortez, Juan Morales and team captains Diego Rodrigues and Jonathan Mendoza. Jonathan Mendoza also voted 2nd Team All Conference and was invited to play in the Senior Game. I can’t say enough about our team and the expectations that they met. They have left their footprints in Wilder Basketball and created memories that will last a lifetime.
-Coach Lopez
Softball
The Wilder Ladycats are ready for the 2021 season with a cast of 10 upperclassmen who are ready to lead. With half the team never having played in a season at Wilder, we are hopeful that determination and drive will help make up for the lack of a 2020 season. A long stretch of home games will help give momentum to the Ladycats as they hope to enter districts in May for a chance at the State Tournament.
-Coach Bauer
Baseball
I'm excited about the opportunity to make a positive influence in these young men's life. Enjoying life, having fun, being respectful, and believing in success is the plan for the Wilder Baseball Team. Success will be measured not only by wins and qualifying for the state tournament, it will also be measured by personal development of athletes and coaches on and off the field.
