Principal Message
Hello Cooper Family and Friends,
Welcome Spring!
I hope you and your family enjoyed some time together during spring break. It is nice to know that warmer weather and spring flowers are on the horizon! We are off and ready to start our third-trimester of school! Report cards were send home Friday March 17 before Spring Break. Continue to have conversation with your child about his or her reading and math goals and what will be done daily to achieve these goals. We are always striving for every child to do their best!
During this month, all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will take the Wisconsin Forward exam. Third and fifth grade students will test in English-Language Arts and Mathematics while fourth grade students will test in all subject areas. Thank you in advance for encouraging your child to do their best on these exams. In addition, I would like to encourage you to be especially vigilant with your child’s attendance in April and to minimize any morning appointments. We appreciate all your help in this matter.
In addition to all these fun events, April is also Tornado Awareness month. April 20th is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. It's a great time to review your plans in the event severe weather strikes. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes per year. We will have a practice drill at school. You may want to discuss this with your child prior to help answer questions. Our teachers will spend time talking about how to stay safe in severe weather.
As you can see, April is a very busy month at Cooper! Thank you again for all your support and encouraging your child to do his or her best!

Cooper/Dyer Transition
Dyer and Cooper PTO members compiled parent questions (URL: https://www.basd.k12.wi.us/schools/dyer/families/faqs.cfm) related to next year's shift with traditional students at Dyer and Montessori students at Cooper.
The shift will happen regardless of the April 4 referendum outcome. The April 4 outcome will let us know what financial resources we have. The planning to redraw boundaries began in 2018 – five years ago. In 2023, we need to make adjustments due to fewer students and a need to reduce spending. As we prepare for a smooth transition, Cooper and Dyer will continue to meet the needs of all students.
