Message from Mrs. Ward
Next up we will be having Field Day. On June 21st students will participate in an all day field day. Mr. Puzzangara has been busy preparing a schedule of rotating stations for all of our students, including an indoors art station. We will have 6 tents around the school grounds for shade stations and we will have plenty of water to give out. Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school (this day and all days!). Please feel free to stop by to reapply sunscreen to your child anytime through out the day!
Our fifth graders have lots of exciting events coming up soon! On Wednesday, June 15th they have their Wax Museum at 9:30 (outside weather permitting) and then on Thursday June 16th they travel by train to the New England Aquarium. Their final event will be on Thursday, June 23rd at 9:30 where we say farewell. Fifth grade families be on the lookout for more information about our Farewell event!
All School Meeting
It is hard to believe the school year is winding down. As excitement, special activities, and anticipation for summer start to rise, it is important to take the time to help ourselves and our students reflect upon all that we have learned, experienced, and accomplished throughout the year.
On Monday, we brought Hatherly School together outside to review our May theme of GRIT, and introduce our theme for June - REFLECTION! Prior to our all school meeting, teachers were asked to show students a short video about Reflection, to introduce the concept and activity we would be working on at the ASM.
Ms. Dempsey eased students into the meeting with a mindful visualization activity focused on gratitude, and then invited students to ‘reflect’ and share about the experience. From there, Mrs. Sheahan helped students to recap GRIT, through asking students to reflect, and “stand up” to spotlight different examples of times they have shown grit this year. Ms. Dempsey reviewed the definition of reflection, and why it’s important in our daily lives - to build perspective, to learn from our mistakes AND successes, to support empathy for others and enhance self-awareness. Mrs. Henry introduced strategies for students to build more reflection into their lives including journaling, conversation, yoga, meditation, being outdoors, gratitude practice, among others. Students were then asked to take part in the ‘me-tree’ activity, an opportunity to reflect on aspects of their lives that they are thankful for.
From there, Mrs. Henry introduced our school-wide ‘reflection’ rock activity - students will write words that remind them of lessons learned, feelings, or activities they want to remember from this year on a painted rock, and the rocks will all be together where they can be viewed and enjoyed within the Elaine Shea garden, behind Hatherly School. Mrs. Sheahan and Mrs. Sturges shared some kind words about Elaine Shea, a beloved late Hatherly teacher, and our hope that this space will be used for quiet, peaceful reflection.
Finally, Ms. Dempsey ended the meeting by inviting all students and teachers to create a big circle, and take part in ‘Stabili-tree’- a community tree pose in which the school stands side by side, physically supports one another while in tree pose, reflecting on our Hatherly family, all we have been through together this year, and how we are stronger together.

Book of the Week
Summer Book Swap
Bring in 1 or 2 new or “almost new” books to school during the week of June 13th-17th. Books need to be appropriate for K-5 students and in good condition.
On June 24th, students will be able to go to the book swap and take home a free book to read over the summer! Depending on the amount of donations, we may be able to send children home with more than 1 book.
Enjoy reading your book this summer! If you finish your book and would like another, return your book to Hatherly School and pick a new book at our book exchange on July 12th from 9am to 11am!
Family Night Book Fair
Kindergarten Teddy Bear Picnic
Teddy Bear Picnic is always a fun morning and a treasured memory and we were so happy to have this tradition back! Our students proudly sang “You're A Grand Old Flag”, “This Land Is Your Land”, “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”, and “You Are my Sunshine”. They enjoyed brunch with family, played games, face painting, bubbles and other crafts. They were adorable in their teddy bear t-shirts!
