A Note From Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Thank you to all of the families who engaged in our Celebration of Learning for Term 2. It was wonderful seeing students enthusiastically sharing what they have been learning with their parents, family members and school community. I would also like to thank the families who participated in the Coping Skills Cafe. There was a great turnout and resources can be found below, in the newsletter.
Yes, the murmurings are true. Hyde-Addison ES will be represented at another DC Education Fund Standing Ovation Award Ceremony for DCPS. I truly appreciate the honor. It has absolutely been a team effort and I am so grateful for the continued collaboration, encouragement and support from the school community and our partners.
As always, please feel free to email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov, with any school specific inquiries.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
Hyde-Addison Elementary School

2023 DC School Report Card
“The 2023 DC School Report Card is built on OSSE’s amended ESSA State Plan, which increases the school accountability system’s emphasis on student growth and marginalized student groups. The school accountability system will also see returning metrics that were not available during the coronavirus (COVID-19) health emergency such as ACCESS growth and student growth on the math and ELA assessments, as well as introduce new metrics such as high school student growth, five-year graduation rate and AP/IB/Dual Enrollment participation.”
In short, the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has released the 2023 DC School Report Card, which scores and rates schools in various areas, including academic achievement, academic growth, attendance and enrollment.
Based on this data, Hyde-Addison ES was ranked #2 for all DCPS Elementary Schools.
Student-Sized Pants
If you have a pair of PK-5th grade student-sized pants that are clean and in good condition that you are able to give to the school, please drop them off at the security desk. These pants will be provided to students who may need a change of clothes.
Inclement Weather Arrival and Dismissal
At dismissal time, families should go to the building door (from the playground) to give their child's name to the staff member at the door beginning at 3:20pm so that they can be sent down to that door, directly. At 3:30pm, remaining students will be taken to the main entrance to be picked up from late dismissal and all other building doors will be closed.
Local Wellness Policy and Update
As a reminder, Hyde-Addison is a nut-free school. It is suggested that families who send in snacks do so in alignment with the Local Wellness Policy (see pages 14-15). Families who send in food or snacks to be shared with other students may alert the school community to the snacks that they plan to provide by posting to their class Konstella account, so that is viewable by parents.
