Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Pictured below is a workshop with the Army, a presentation from HSBC and work completed during a session with Wilmott Dixon where students were given a budget and asked to design their own school.
Year 12 physics students took part in a virtual lecture from an expert in particle physics at CERN. They used the opportunity to ask some great questions and gained an insight into career prospects at the world leading research centre.
Masterclasses were also held this week for our students which included Maths and Design Technology and we were delighted to welcome so many of our Sixth Form applicants to the Induction day, they had the opportunity to find out more about studying at CTS, meet current students and visit our new Sixth Form Centre.

Maths:
Mr Horne has nominated Year 9 students Gabriela, Izabela, Robert & Amelia who have continued to work hard on the mathematics of compound measures this week.
Mrs Ferns has nominated Year 10 students who have achieved fantastic results in the recent assessment, special mention to James, Holly, Gabriela, Tola, Avantika, Nikodem and Michal.
Mrs Wynn has nominated 9B3 this week for their work on speed, distance and time and 7CU for their exemplary behaviour to a new member of staff.
Mr Lee has nominated Nathan W in Year 10 for a fantastic effort with rearranging formulae. Also nominated are Callum in Year 10 for a his hard work finding the area and circumference of circles and Year 8 student Stas for achieving the highest score in the end of year assessment – he has consistently put in 100% to every lesson this year.
Music:
Year 7
The music department would like to celebrate Max K in 7CA who achieved a distinction in his grade 4 piano exam. The examiner made the following comments about his performance:
‘This performance was very musical overall’
‘Communicative playing’
‘Every dynamic, pattern, rubato , melodic fragment, each had a context and was beautifully managed. Well done!’
Well done, Max! We are very proud of what you have achieved and can’t wait to hear you play our new piano when it arrives in the George Weston Theatre.
Year 8
Year 8 have been learning how to play our new djembe drums this week. They have all done really well at picking up a new skill and have already learnt a full traditional piece from Ghana. In particular, Noah and Tyler in 8TE, and Omayer and Ashley in 8SW have impressed Miss Jenkins with their excellent technique.
English:
Miss Vye has nominated Mason (7CU) for performing a comedy set as part of a group at the Corby Cube yesterday. Mason says it went well, 7CU are really proud of him!
Ms Hallybone has nominated Year 10 English students Tom J, Gabi M, Daisy, Denisa, Holly, Annie, David S and Anya for excellent progress in their assessments.
Also nominated are Year 10 Drama students Kelly, Danielle, Emily, Tom, Jasmine, Annie, Alice and Holly for outstanding work on their written Drama assessment.
Mrs Brown has been discussing her favourite poem in the Anthology called 'Tissue' with Year 10 students this week and would like to thank the students for some lovely sensitive discussions. In particular, Pascal who thought the poem was beautiful, and Jabuk L for his connection with the poem. Also nominated are Ryan C for his understanding and Alicja S and George S for some excellent understanding of the poem's message and to Milan for exploring the power of paper.
Humanities:
Mrs Vaghadia has nominated her Year 10 sociology class for working super hard on their assessment feedback lesson and showing perseverance. Also nominated are 7SI students Mason, Lilly and Addison for creating excellent pieces of work in RSCS this week. Well done for working super hard and creating very creative pieces, 7A2 English for excellent participation and work produced in the class well done! and finally, 9ST for working hard in RSCS and participating in class discussion.
Mr Strumpher has nominated 7CO for doing very good work in the Geography lesson. They learned about river floods and what is the main causes.
Miss Bird has nominated Gabriella, Ellie, Rowan, George, David, Avantika, Nive, Angel, Oscar and Naomi in 10C history for their continuous hard work an dedication to their studies. Well done and keep it up! Also nominated are Trafford in 7CO who continuously impresses with his answers and engagement with history, 9TE received their assessment results this week, a lot of them were really impressive so well done for your results!! Finally, Year 8 have been having some really interesting and mature discussions surrounding controversial topics including ‘stolen’ artefacts from the British Empire and the destruction of statues related to slavery. The points both 8CA and 8SW came up with were excellent, well thought through and very mature. Well done year 8.
