Last week saw many performing arts opportunities for our students. On Monday afternoon, two of our Year 2 students attended Chifley Public School to receive awards for the Ben Chifley Art Competition. Amy was awarded first place and Jock was highly commended in the Stage 1 category. At Wednesday's assembly, the guitar and singing group performed for the school, and on Thursday night many students attended the Dance Fever Challenge held at Homebush. Congratulations to all students who participated in these events. (See below for more details and photos).
Congratulations to Nathan in Year 6 who received a 'Deadly Kids Doing Well' Award at a ceremony held at UTS last Friday. The term 'deadly' in Aboriginal English means: doing well, achieving and/or talented. Nathan received this award for doing well at school and being a responsible member of Year 6.
Good luck to Shawnee in Year 3. She will be attending the Regional Athletics Carnival on Tuesday to compete in the 100m event. We wish her all the best and congratulate her on making it to the regional level.
Our P&C works tirelessly for our school to raise money to help improve our school and provide opportunities for our kids. Read on in the newsletter to hear about some of the great work they have done and the benefits they have been able to give to our students. The P&C is always looking for new parents to help. It is a great way to get to know other members of our school community and to have your say at the school.

PBL Expected Behaviours
This fortnight's focus behaviours are:
Be Safe
- Keep my hands and feet to myself
- Stay in bounds
NEW Basketball/Netball Rings
Thank you to our wonderful P&C for purchasing a brand new set of Basketball/Netball rings. The kids are very excited and can hardly wait until they are installed on Thursday and Friday of this week. Once the rings are installed, a basketball court will be painted (in a different colour to the netball court) so that the students can begin to use them. The new rings will be able to be rotated so that they can be used as either netball rings or basketball rings. This offers greater choice at lunchtime and allows students to develop skills in both sports. Basketball is a popular sport in high school and has options for both boys and girls.
Please be aware that on Thursday and Friday when the rings are due to be installed, the court area will be out of bounds. This area will be cordoned off with cones for the safety of everyone who enters our school.
SPARTAN Event
Your child may have come home last week and started talking about giant obstacle courses and getting dirty. This is because they were talking about the P&C's major fundraising event for this year. On Friday 14th October (the first Friday back in Term 4), all students will have the opportunity to participate in a SPARTAN event. This event will be set up on the school field and will contain inflatable obstacle-style apparatus. Classes will take turns to complete the event and will have a whole lot of fun while doing so! The event will have activities suitable for every age and fitness level, and is designed to get kids active...and dirty! (Please wear old clothes and shoes, and bring a spare set to change into).
The aim of the day is to have fun and raise some money for our school. This week, students will bring home an information note and a sponsorship card. Students are asked to recruit sponsors from family and friends, and collect money for completing the event. Prizes will be awarded to the class and the individual boy and girl who raise the most money. Please look out for information in school bags this week.
Father's Day Stall
Thanks to the P&C who held a Father's Day Stall on the Friday before Father's Day and raised a fabulous $1808.30. Thanks to everyone who donated gifts, thanks to the wrappers who prepared them all beautifully, thanks to those who did some additional late night shopping to ensure that every child was able to buy a gift, and thanks to the amazing team of helpers who did a fabulous job running the stall.
A special shout out to Lee who even took the stall to the pre-school as they were not able to come up in the rain. As always the children loved being able to choose their special gift. It was great to see our awesome community come together again.
School Banking
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our students, we have raised $218 for our school through School Banking commissions in April, May and June. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit). Saving regularly is an important habit to get into, whether you're saving a little or a lot. Keep up the great work and remember to bring in your School Banking deposit every Thursday.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program.
Sugar Workshop
A parent session about 'Kids, Food & Feeding' will be held thisTuesday evening at 7pm in the Library. Jenny Boss, a nutritionist, will run this session. Some of the topics she will cover include: catering for fussy eaters and making mealtimes less stressful. See the poster below for some more information. This is sure to be a very informative session and one I'm sure most parents will find useful.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten orientation morning is this Wednesday 14th September from 9am-11am. New Kindergarten students are invited to attend and should have received an invite in the mail. Current Preschool children who are attending Banksmeadow next year must arrive at Preschool no later than 9.10am this Wednesday to ensure they are on time to be able to walk up to the school with the Preschool educators. Preschool children not attending Banksmeadow next year will be able to stay at the Preschool with staff supervision. It is always a good idea for parents to come to the information session held in the hall between 9:30-11:00am, even if this is your second or third child.
Last week, Mrs Bragg took some of our current Kindergarten children down to the Preschool for a forum on starting school from a child's point of view. We had a very interesting question and answer afternoon by the people who know best about starting Kindergarten...our current Kindergarten students! They talked about what they like to do, what they wear, school expectations and routines, as well as what to bring to school to eat.
Last Tuesday, our Kindergarten students went on their very first school excursion. They headed off through Botany and walked to Sir Joseph Banks Park where they had a BBQ and a play in the park. The weather couldn't have been better and there were many happy kids who enjoyed the day. Thank you to the parent helpers who met us at the park and cooked the BBQ for us. It was a wonderful day and was enjoyed by all!
Dance
Normal dance lessons will be held tomorrow. However, Miss Vicki will be on holidays next week so there will be no dance lessons in the last week of term. In Week 1 of Term 4, both the Senior and Junior Dance Groups will rehearse at lunchtime - there will be no before school practice for the Juniors. Normal lesson times will resume from Week 2.
Safety Around the School
We have recently had visits from the local police, to enforce the parking and road rules around the school. These rules are in place to ensure the safety of our children and members of our school community. Please follow these rules and only park in areas that are designated parking spaces.
The pedestrian crossing at the bottom entrance to the school (Wiggins & Trevelyan Sts) is also becoming increasingly dangerous, with many cars driving at an unsafe speed around the corner. Please be careful if you are crossing at the crossing, and stay vigilant if driving in this street. Several parents are also stopping on the crossing to drop of their children - please do not do this as it is extremely dangerous.
Dance Fever Challenge
Last Thursday night, 63 students and a few of the teachers headed out to Homebush Sports Centre for the Dance Fever Challenge. It was a fabulous night with lots of music, dancing and smiles! The students had a lot of fun and many were rewarded for their hard work during dance lessons by being selected in the finals of the Foxtrot and the Cha Cha. We had some great results, with several of our pairs being placed. Our 'Villains and Heroes' whole school dance was also a hit, taking out the trophy for Showgroup. Congratulations to all students for their hard work and performances on the night!
Results include:
Brock & Isabella - 2nd - Year 4 Foxtrot
Jasmin & LIam - 3rd - Year 5 Foxtrot & Cha Cha
692- Shawnee & Hanna - 1st - Year 3 Foxtrot
694 - Melissa & Mya - 2nd - Year 6 Foxtrot
717 - Katrina & Gavin - 1st - Year 3 Cha Cha
719 - Holly & Cameron - 3rd - Year 4 Cha Cha
721 - Holly & Charlie - 1st - Year 3 Cha Cha
Performance for Parents
On Monday 19th September from 2pm, all classes from K-2 will perform the dances they have learnt in their Dance Fever lessons this term. Parents are invited to watch as the students perform their partner dances, as well as the 3-6 group dance. The performance will be held on the basketball court, weather permitting.
School Uniform - REPEAT
Students have been making a great effort to ensure they wear the correct uniform and it has really improved the look of our school. In Term 4, we will change to the summer uniform. However, as the days are beginning to get a little warmer, students who wish to wear the summer uniform over the coming weeks may do so.
Parent 'Tell Them From Me' Surveys - REPEAT
Tell Them From Me Surveys for parents are now open. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. It should only take about 15 minutes or less and is entirely confidential.
Information from this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.
Please complete the survey by visiting https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/zz95f before 21st October.
