With consecutive two days of COVID cases, we wanted to go over the protocols with close contact tracing, how families are notified, and pertinent reminders of what families can do with keeping our campus as safe as possible. August's Habit of Mind is Caring and Cooperation

At Waikiki Elementary School, we celebrate the HOMs daily, with a monthly focus on a specific HOM. Each month we will share with our families the HOM for the month with a little background about the HOM.

We begin this school year by focusing on a Habit of Mind that is needed now more than ever. Cooperation and Caring is the HEART of our mindful learning community. We learn how to work together, think interdependently, encourage each other, show kindness and nurture mutual respect. What do we mean by Cooperation and Caring? Students in the 2nd and 4th grades worked together to create this definition: “Cooperation and Caring means being a good/kind friend and working together (with anyone).”

Travel Policy Update

The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) follows federal, state and county issued travel requirements and may implement supplementary guidance in order to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and maintain the health and safety of school campuses.

Student travelers must follow all applicable state and county rules at the time of the trip, including compliance with any required quarantine periods. There are three (3) options for students returning from out-of-state travel:

1. Be fully vaccinated prior to the start of out-of-state travel and provide proof of vaccination to the school;

2. Obtain a COVID-19 test after return and submit a negative test result to the school; or

3. Quarantine for 10 days after return.
