Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
Although the week was short, it was a busy one with important messages and opportunities for students at Batavia High School!
This week, we celebrated National School Resource Officer Day with Officer Warner and enjoyed an assembly on Valentines Day with Nick Jackson, the creator and speaker of #IAMSPEAKLOVE. His message of creating a “culture of belonging” is an important one for high school students and aligns with our “Culturize” focus of #EveryBulldogEveryDay. Our students enjoyed Nick’s message and spent time after the assembly reflecting.
Make sure you read the “please take note section” below. On Tuesday, February 20th and Tuesday, February 27th, we will be reviewing two videos from Sandy Hook Promise. The Sandy Hook Promise is a nonprofit organization founded to help students recognize the early warning signs of suicide and other types of violence. Reviewing these messages throughout the next few weeks supports The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce requirements for safe schools.
On February 21st, we will be celebrating #JoJoStrong Day. Please reference the flier in the newsletter. On this day, our students are asked to wear black and white, and will receive a zebra print ribbon to wear as they enter the building. We will also have several #JoJoStrong T-Shirts for students as well. Donations of $20 will be accepted for the T-Shirts and will go to support JoJo and his family during this difficult time.
Thank you for allowing us to support your students, and take some time to enjoy the four-day weekend with them.
In service to our Bulldogs.

Wednesday, February 21, 2024 has been declared JoJo Strong Day. To show our support for JoJo and his cancer treatment, please wear black and white. The cancer that JoJo has is rare, just like a Zebra, so his ribbon color is zebra striped. In honor of JoJo, BHS students will be wearing zebra ribbons and wearing their black and white on this day.

2024-25 FAFSA Update:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2024-25 academic year has undergone many changes, been updated for 2024, and is currently having a "soft launch". The website is up and running, but will be temporarily shut down occasionally for maintenance and updates. Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are at least eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources as they are received.
Here is the link to a short video that explains what the FAFSA is: What is FAFSA?
We have also included the link to a slightly lengthier video that explains the entire FAFSA application process and answers many of your questions: The 2024-2025 Financial Aid Process
The student, as well as the parents/guardians must have their own FSA ID to begin the FAFSA application process. Here is the link to create your FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Lastly, here is the link to begin your FAFSA application: StudentAid.Gov
Updated Scholarship List:
Another option to look at opportunities for additional funding for college is by applying for scholarships. BHS Guidance updates this list regularly as new scholarships are shared with us. Here is a link to the most recent list that is shared with all seniors:
