Update from Mrs. Short
- Parent/Teacher Conferences will be here before we know it. First grade has started scheduling, and has passed it on. Please continue scheduling this week. We will talk in more detail at Wednesday's staff meeting. It will begin at approximately 3:45 in the collab space. All certified staff are expected to attend.
- Grade Cards must be complete and printed by end of day on the teacher work day (10/16) and ready to share at P/T Conferences
- All SPED Progress reports are due that day as well (10/16)
- I spoke with the Maintenance Department regarding the concern with the green slide. They sent a crew out on Friday. It is been deemed "structurally safe" - but new/additional bolts have been ordered.
- Saint Mary's Basketball team will be out front to welcome students starting this Wednesday.
- Mrs. Reineke is looking for toilet paper rolls for a project she is doing with students during Pioneer Time. Please save empty rolls for her if you are able. Thanks!
- CHAMPS should be posted in all classrooms. *Anyone can hang a poster, please also go over your classroom expectations regularly with students. Remember, if you need to practice with a student to let us know - we will help cover. And, if you get stuck or have questions with a procedure or a student, also reach out - together we can turn things around.
- STOIC - Click HERE to review the STOIC model from Safe and Civil Schools. STOIC encourages responsible student behavior through effective classroom management. If we are doing our part consistently, students have less wiggle room. There is also more information about STOIC in this week's CHAMP Camp section below. Great classroom management helps student behaviors.

Update from Mrs. Breault
As we approach the end of the first quarter, I find myself reflecting on this quote from Maya Angelou that has gotten me through several challenging moments as an educator. Teaching is truly a unique blend of science and art. The science provides us with the frameworks and strategies to guide our decisions, while the art requires practice and intuition to make things fall into place in our classrooms. This mix can make it tricky to know if we're making the right choices day in and day out.
It’s easy to feel the weight of our decisions, especially when we consider how we might have approached things differently. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on both the successes and the challenges you've faced so far this school year. What can you celebrate? What lessons have you learned that can help us improve moving forward? And as we navigate these changes for the benefit of our students, let’s remember to show ourselves a little grace. Together, we can continue to grow and support one another as we know better and do better.
- Join us for our first After School Detention of the school year at Buffalo Wild Wings on Thursday!
- SIT Updates:
- Mrs. Stephens created a new SIT Referral Form to make the process of referring students to the SIT process easier. Please use this form for submitting students to SIT. Reach out to a SIT member if you have any questions regarding the referral process. DB SIT Referral Form
- Students with SIT Files will be shared with current teachers this week. Please note that some documents in the folders may not be accessible due to the owner of the files no longer being 453 employees. We are working on this and will hopefully gain accessibility soon.
- QPS progress monitoring should occur and be documented in the Literacy Summary Form sheets this week.
- Behavior Reminders:
- Please make sure you are documenting interactions in Kickboard. If you ask for assistance for any reason, it must be accompanied by documentation in Kickboard.
- Breaks can be logged under Recovery- Break. Scheduled breaks do not need to be logged as long as they are a part of a student's plan (PLC+, IEP, 504, Nursing Plan, etc.).
- It is the responsibility of the teacher who has the student at the time of the incident to document the interactions, both positive and negative. That teacher must also communicate any concerns with parents, especially if the student must be removed from the classroom.
- Remember to be making those positive deposits with parents when you can, especially with our most challenging students!
- Call the front office if you need assistance.
- After any 3 badge Centegix pushes, call the office as soon as you are available.
- If you need guidance regarding if an office referral is the appropriate step, please see the Behavior Matrix Quick Guide below.

Update from Mrs. Griffin
- Small Groups have been underway since September 3rd, and the first round of progress monitoring was this week! Don't forget to enter that data into your Literacy Spreadsheet on the Progress Monitoring tab at the bottom of the page. If you need guidance, use the flowchart for decision making regarding your group skills/levels. Reach out if I can help in any way!
- Be on the lookout for a fun invite and information coming soon about an October Phonics/Literacy make-and-take event for centers with me that just might include dessert and fun (appropriate) drinks!

Responsibility - Week 1
Many Hands (Role Model)
Choose 1 area of the school that could benefit from some intentionality and make it your Responsibility this week to improve it. Perhaps it is helping with lunch duty, picking up some trash, or helping break down boxes. Maybe it is adding some quality treats to the staff lounge or bringing in a plant to the main office. Make that 1 area a tiny bit better for other staff and/or students.
24-25 Building Goals
Teaching and Learning
David Brewer will seek to improve the percentage of students achieving Levels 3 and 4 on the Kansas Assessment Program (English Language Arts, Math, and Science) with a goal of increasing by 2% by the 24/25 school year.
Student Engagement and Support Services
David Brewer Elementary will decrease disruptive behavior incidents by 30% over the 24/25 school year.
Family & Community Involvement
David Brewer Elementary will establish mutually beneficial partnerships with at least five local organizations during the 24/25 school year that help foster student learning opportunities and support our Site Council and Parent/Teacher Organization.
