Creston CommunityNewsWeek of February 21, 2021

From the Principal

CIMS Families -

Wow! What an eventful week we had last week between the snow, eLearning days, and bringing most of our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders back to school in person! Thank you for your flexibility and patience throughout the week.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • IN PERSON 6TH GRADERS AND ALL 7TH/8TH GRADERS: These students have all returned to the black/gold schedule. Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday are black cohort instructional days; Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday are gold cohort instructional days. Remember that instructional days are when students either come to school in person OR have their Zoom classes if they are 100% virtual. On their non-instructional days (or application days) our students should take their attendance through Canvas, visit each course on Canvas, and complete the work throughout the day at their own pace.

ALL STUDENTS will start NWEA Testing this week in math. Please help set your student up for success with getting enough sleep and encouraging them to stay focused while working on their test. Students will take their reading test the week of March 8.

Please continue to remind your student about the importance of wearing their mask correctly at all times during the school day. If your child or someone in your family is sick, please call our office to speak to our nurse about next steps to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Black History Month continues throughout February. We are excited for our students to spend some time in the coming week hearing from Creston alumni about the impact of Black History on their own lives! Be sure to check the newsletter next week to learn who our student winners from the Black History Month digital poster contest are! Thank you to all students who entered!

8th Grade Students/Families: 8th grade students will begin selecting electives for high school schedules this coming week in their social studies class. The selection window is open from Feb. 22-March 1. Information regarding summer PE will be coming soon.

Students Attending School IN PERSON Must Follow the CIMS Dress Code Students Attending School IN PERSON Must Follow the CIMS Dress Code

Students (and Caregivers):

We appreciate your efforts to make sure you are meeting our dress code expectations when you attend school in person. We also realize that many factors may make following certain parts of the dress code more challenging right now than in typical school years.

Moving forward, please note that our school administration will be addressing dress code violations that present safety concerns and/or could disrupt the learning environment. Specifically, we expect that students:

  • Wear a mask that adequately covers your mouth and nose at all times

  • Wear clothing free from inappropriate or offensive language/imagery

  • Wear clothing that provides proper coverage from knees to shoulders

  • Wear safe footwear (feet must be secured with shoes that fasten in front and back)

  • Avoid wearing hats, hoods, head coverings, sunglasses, etc. in the school building

  • All outerwear must be stored in locker throughout the school day

  • Put cell phones, ear buds, headphones away upon entering the school building

CIMS School Administration reserves the right to modify and/or interpret the dress code to ensure a safe, productive learning environment is maintained. Failure or refusal to adhere to these expectations is subject to progressive consequences as outlined in the Student Success Handbook.
