Ms. Hass' 1st Graders Building Connections Across America!
Ms. Hass' first graders are connecting with their peers all across our country! Here are more details from Ms. Haas:
We have been receiving some fun mail recently! I signed our class up to participate in a snowman exchange with other first-grade classes around the country. We've already learned about Arkansas, Florida, New York, Virginia, and South Dakota.
We are finishing our letter and making snow people to send to 49 states this week. Our class did a great job thinking about what is special and unique about Stow, Massachusetts.
Our first graders decided to share the following information about our community:
- We are a small town close to Boston
- Lots of people come here to pick apples
- We live close to where the Revolutionary War started
- Johnny Appleseed was born near here.
-The Center School is a Pre K-5 school
- We have a town beach on Lake Boone
- We live close to the ocean and mountains so that we can go to the beach or skiing/boarding
- There is only one elementary school in Stow, and there are less than 100 first graders here
- We get to play in the snow during recess in the winter
- We love Junie B. Jones and Pig the Pug books.
- We get free choice every day.
It seems like a very inclusive list! We may add more before we are ready to send it. The class is creating a map to incorporate geography lessons into this great project. We are having great fun keeping track of our new snow friends!

First Annual Center School All-School Spelling Bee!
On January 20, 2023, The Center School will hold its first annual Spelling Bee. The Bee will take place in the gym at 9:00 a.m., and parents, caregivers, and friends are invited to attend. Students in grades 1 through 5 took a qualifying grade-level spelling quiz. The results of this quiz determined the finalists for our all-school event. Finalists include students in grades three through five. Our top spellers in first and second grade will be honored at the event but will not participate in the live event.
The winner of The Center School Spelling Bee will move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee Remote Regional Spelling Bee Elimination Round. Regional winners will advance to an in-person Regional Spelling Bee with the opportunity to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
We are proud of all of our Center students. This event encourages all students to do their best and cheer on their friends and peers. We are excited to come together as a community to celebrate our collective spirit.

Notes from Nurse Dumas
Just a friendly mid-year reminder to always call or email centerattendance.net when your child is absent as early as possible. Also, please state the reason for your child's absence. I still track Covid numbers along with Flu and Strep Throat.
Parents of 4th-grade students, I need a current copy of a physical with immunization records. Thank you.
