Superintendent's Update - 9.22.2023
Dear CPS Community,
It is hard to believe that tomorrow marks the last day of summer with Sunday, September 24th, ringing in the fall season. Whether you are still putting away your beach and pool attire, or are drinking seasonal pumpkin-flavored beverages, the transition from summer to fall brings many emotions (and wardrobe changes). This time of year brings cooler evenings and warmer days; along with a delicate balance of daylight in both the morning and evening hours until we forge forward into daylight savings time. I hope with the less hot and humid days this past week you were able to enjoy some time outdoors. It looks like we may be impacted again this weekend with rain from “Tropical Cyclone 16” heading our way. Hopefully, it comes and goes without any additional issues or power outages. We shall see what this weather brings to us this weekend.
Our fall athletic season is packed with many daily games and lots of excitement. If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of the many CHS athletic team events, I encourage you to come cheer on our high school students. This evening, CHS will be hosting the second home football game of the season, which is always a great time – be sure to enjoy the CHS Marching Band’s halftime show! You may find the schedule for all athletic events at the following link. Speaking of football, I would like to share some exciting news about our annual Thanksgiving Day football game. Traditionally, Chelmsford High School battles its rival team, Billerica High School each Thanksgiving Day. This year, Chelmsford and Billerica have been invited to play their Thanksgiving game at Fenway Park on Wednesday, November 22nd at 4:00 p.m. A total of eight high school football teams will play their Thanksgiving rivalry games at the home of the Boston Red Sox on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This will be a double-header event with Leominster and Fitchburg High Schools playing right after us that evening starting at 6:30 p.m. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased here. Tickets cost $20 and provide access to both games. The coaches and players are excited to participate this year and look forward to seeing everyone cheer them on in Boston at Fenway Park.
Please enjoy this week’s highlights and have a great weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

What's brewing in 8th Grade Science at the Mccarthy middle School?
Bionic Project
We were excited to welcome professional athlete Nico Calabria and the Bionic Project to Parker for grade 5 today. The Bionic Project aims to create a more inclusive world for everyone, regardless of physical ability. They dismantle disability bias, build empathy, and foster connection through education, story, and sport. The major themes discussed were defining the term disability, discussing Accessibility, and Recognizing Privileges. Nico challenged each student to help make Parker a more inclusive community. The assemblies were dynamic and empowering to our students and we are excited to have the Bionic Project back to visit with the 6th grade on Friday, October 13th.
