This fee will be maintained by LEE to purchase school specific nonstandard classroom materials such as school planners, word books and writing paper. Because items purchased with materials fees are for both individual student and group use, the fees will be pooled and deposited for use in an account at LEE.

If you have not yet paid the Materials Fee, the $10 fee may be paid by check made out to LEE, cash or by clicking here.

The Enrichment Program is a program run within our school, that provides students with before and after school enrichment activities such as pottery, arts, crafts, movies, sports activities, camps, music and drama programs. These programs can only be made possible with the support of our LEE students and their families. Flyers or catalogs will periodically be sent home in student’s Thursday folder, depending on the activity’s grade requirements.

Our mission at Longmont Estates Elementary is to create an exemplary learning environment that strives to inspire high academic achievement and studentwell-being. In partnership with the community, we recognize each child as an individual and prepare them to meet academic challenges to ensure success in our society.

Please take time to read the 2019-2020 Student and Family Handbook in order to thoroughly familiarize yourselves with our school and district policies. This handbook also serves as a reference throughout the school year as pertinent information, forms, and the school calendar are included and will be updated on our website as needed.

The handbook is considered a contract between the family and the school. Please read it carefully. We will be sending home an acknowledgement form for you to sign in Thursday folders.

Realizing that recognition of your child’s birthday is important to him/her and builds a good self-concept, we do allow for limited birthday celebrations at school, if they desire. However, keeping in mind wellness and sound nutritional habits, students will no longer be bringing in sugary treats for birthday celebrations. Teachers will now be offering a list of healthy alternatives of how to celebrate this special day. Please talk to your student’s classroom teacher about their birthday policy. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping all of our students healthy.

Please join Longmont YMCA and Longmont Estates Elementary for a FREE Back-to-School event on Friday, September 13th from 5-7 p.m. Please feel free to bring your whole family to this event. There will be plenty of fun for everyone!

Blue Sky Bridge is a non profit Child Advocacy Center serving Boulder County children, youth and their families. They will be coming to LEES on Wednesday August 28th at 4:30 to give a special presentation for Parents and Caretakers about the educational program Kindergarten and 3rd grade students will receive this year. Parents will also be given valuable information on ways to keep their kids safe. All parents are welcome regardless of child's grade level!

100 Mile Club is a running, jogging and walking club. Every student, parent and staff member are welcome to join and do their best. Students can join at any time throughout the school year, attendance is not mandatory and coming a little late is better than not coming at all. Longmont Estates Elementary will be implementing the 100 Mile Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on August 27th from 7:40-8:10 am. The registration cost for 100 Mile Clubis $20 per student per year. Families can sponsor other students. Please note that this is a district-wide program and sponsorships will be applied to students needing assistance district-wide. If you need a scholarship, please work with Mike Newell or Tara Roeder to secure one. Parents are encouraged to register, participate and earn incentives as well. A registration form is available in the front office, but you are encouraged to register online through Revtrak at: https://stvrain.revtrak.net/Program-Registration/.

We will meet on the West side of school in the mornings. If the field is snow covered, we will walk/run on the playground blacktop and if it is actively raining or snowing or it is below 15 degrees outside we will enjoy the club inside the school. Please encourage your child to bring water, wear layers of clothing and bring a can do attitude. Our goals are to increase physical fitness levels, set goals, build community and increase academic achievement through this physical activity. Looking forward to seeing you in the 100 MileClub! Starting on Monday, August 26th, we will have a Walking School Bus going from Longmont Estates to Westview Middle School. Much like a regular school bus, a walking school bus is designed to get students safely to their destination. We will have a designated meeting place and a staff member or volunteer waiting to escort the children safely to Westview. If you would like your child to participate, please email Alice Marshall at marshall_alice@svvsd.org.

It’s been fun starting library classes this week! It is so wonderful to see all the student’s faces after such a long summer break, not to mention that I feel like they all grew at least a foot in height!

Some things to keep in mind as we get started this school year:

-You should have received the “Media Center Policies” from your student’s classroom teacher. These need to be signed and returned as soon as possible if you haven’t already done so. It is important for families to understand the expectations for library books.

-Please spend a few minutes enjoying the library books your students bring home each week. It is valuable to show your child that reading is important and that you are interested in what book they chose. It is so much fun to see the excitement in your child while sharing that special time! Establishing these habits early on in life make a difference as they get older.

-This week we are going over the general rules of the library. Next week we will be learning about how to be responsible with a library book and the proper care of books. Please help your student find their “safe spot” at home, away from food, pets and other hazards, where they can keep their borrowed books.

It’s going to be a great year! My plan to instill a love of reading and books into each and every student here at LEEL!

Every year, Mrs. Wonnacott invites LEE students in grades K-5 to highlight their talents and participate in the Permanent Art Display Competition.

The STEM lab has been busy with students coming in this week to explore and learn about what we'll be doing in STEM this year. Next week, we'll all be working on design challenges, where students will learn the steps of the Design Thinking process. In the next few weeks we’ll start coding in grades 1-5 (Kindergarten will start in the second semester). Here’s an article that talks a bit about why we teach coding in elementary school.

Many students will be participating in a design challenge where we create a Cardboard Arcade for the Fall Festival on Oct. 26th. This was a big hit last year, and the students are very excited to create new games.

A heads up that the Innovation Fair will be held on March 12th, 2020. I’d love to have as many students participate as possible, and more details on the types of projects they can present will be forthcoming.

The new and improved Box Tops mobile app uses state-of-the-art technology to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store as packages transition to the new Box Tops labels. You can still clip these and send them to school. Please make sure each clip has a valid expiration date.

Longmont Dairy Farm will donate 5¢ for every bottle cap that we collect from Longmont Dairy produced products (including Cold Brew Coffee, Iced Tea, Coffee Creamers, Milk, Cream, Lemonade and Orange Juice).

Since 2014, over $300,000 has been donated back to participating schools through the Milk Caps for Moola program. Schools are free to spend these funds as they wish: for good behavior rewards, special sports equipment, and field trips. Collect caps from your family or your neighbors.

It's fun and easy to collect milk bottle caps and earn money for our school.

The first Wednesday of each month, excluding October and January, is a Late Start Day. This allows for teachers to meet for Professional Development and collaboration. School begins 2 1/2 hours later than normal. Buses run 2 1/2 hours later than their morning pick up time.

Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, is a District Late Start day. Students may arrive on campus at 10:45AM. The first bell will ring at 10:50AM and the late bell will ring at 10:55AM. Breakfast will not be served.

Preschool will have a normal start to their school day.

Half Day Kindergarten students will NOT be attending school at all on Late Start.

Each year schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students in grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

The search for gifted/talented students begins with an opportunity for parents and/or teachers to refer students for review. Once referrals are received, a team of educators review student state testing data, standardized test scores, rating scales and other school data to determine student eligibility.

If you believe that your child qualifies and would benefit from district Gifted/Talented services, please pick up a nomination form in the front office, or contact Alice Marshall at marshall_alice@svvsd.org.
