As we enter the final week before break, we want to wish you and your families the merriest of winter holidays your family might celebrate. We hope you have a safe and healthy break and look forward to continuing our excellence together in 2023.

December 12-16: Winter Spirit Week (school hours during break are 9:30am-3pm)

Dec. 19-Jan. 2: Winter Break (return to school Jan. 3 - A Day)

January 13: Last day to submit quarter 2 work AND credit recovery from quarter 1

January 20: Last day of quarter 2

As a reminder, at JCHS, students cannot be assigned any class assignments that take place over holidays, so please use this opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends, read, and rest!!

Extra Help

Students are invited to stay for after school tutoring from 4:30-5:30pm. As a reminder, buses run at 5:30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students also still have access to tutor.com for the remainder of the school year and Learning Lab during study hall during the school day.

LCPS partnership with the Cook Center for Human Connection

ParentGuidance.org and mylifeisworthliving.org are free online resources to assist with mental health strategies for youth. Parents and caregivers are invited to explore these two websites, which are linked on the LCPS homepage. Please contact Jennifer Evans (jennifer.evans@lcps.org), LCPS’ Director of Student Mental Health Services, if you have any questions about these resources.

Payment Portal

With the new online payment portal this year, it's VERY important that families register (HERE) AND add student(s) to the account so you receive the alerts and have access to the various items by team, class, club, etc.

John Champe eSports is heading to Shenandoah University for the VHSL Playoffs Top 8 December 17. Congratulations to Haiden Lee, Yousif Rajeb, Colin Chatman for their accomplishments so far and good luck next week!

HOBY Youth Leadership Conference

Yasseen Metwally and Chloe Jahng have been chosen as the two John Champe Knights to represent JCHS in June at JMU for the annual conference.

Last month, our weight room saw some exciting new changes and features. We are proud to give our students and athletes top of the line facilities. We have completely flipped our floor plan from what was a closed plan with our weight racks in the middle to an open plan with our new wall mounted racks bordering the room. Our most exciting feature of the new space is our floor. Installed by Abacus Sports, we now have a floor that resembles that of a collegiate facility. The floor that borders the weight is an all-black rubber material that has an inlaid platform that provides a safe area for our students and athletes to complete explosive lifts. Another feature of our floor is the blue indoor turf. Consistent with what you would find at a local gym, this turf provides a space for our kids to stretch, perform sled work, perform plyometric movements and so on. While the room has been renovated and new equipment has been installed, we aren’t finished. We have plans to phase out all of our old equipment for a complete room update.

We are proud to offer four $500 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to enter and attend a university, college, or technical school in the fall following graduation. Completed scholarship applications must be submitted to Karen King, Career Center Specialist, by 4:18 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. You may email or drop off the completed application to JCHS Main Office. Applicants must be PTSA members as of December 1, 2022.

There are no PTSA meetings in December: we’ll see you on January 25!

The John Champe Athletics Booster Club is in NEED of volunteers for Concessions for the winter sports games. Volunteers like YOU make it possible to open up Concessions for the games.

This is a great way to earn money for your team or to earn volunteer hours.
