From the Principal
Dear Parents,
I have no words to express my gratitude to you for such a phenomenal year. Your kids have achieved beyond our expectations and they rose to higher academic expectations in literacy than ever before. We could not be more proud of what they have accomplished in the last ten months. As we head into summer, I personally ask that you keep that momentum going. Research shows that if children do not continue reading daily, they will slide backwards. Please make reading (and writing when possible) part of your daily routine. Check out the Milton Library and local bookstores to find books on your child’s reading level that interest them. Keep in mind a mix of fiction and nonfiction is always good!
Wednesday night, we had the pleasure of recognizing our 5th graders at our annual promotion ceremony. Our students looked so nice in their Sunday best attire. Mr. Charles Chester, their new middle school principal, spoke encouraging words about “what’s good in the middle”. I am confident we are sending our children into sixth grade ready to conquer the challenges that are ahead of them socially and academically.
Thursday, we celebrated former Colts who graduated from Milton this year. This is a new tradition we hope to continue. Congratulations to the senior class of 2017. They are a great group of young adults now!
In closing, I hope you have a fantastic summer. The next two months will pass by quickly so take time to enjoy vacations with your family to new places, summer camps, and time with friends. You’ve worked so hard this year and everyone at Crabapple Crossing is so proud of YOU!

Summer Reading
Our Colts are so proud of their reading successes this year! We encourage our CCES families to participate in Summer Reading to continue supporting the proud readers they have become! Children who actively read during the summer months are able to sustain (and often grow) their reading level. Children who do not, can lose 2-3 months of progress. Please use the resources and links on our Summer Reading webpage to access free eBooks and learn more about Summer Reading Programs at our Milton Public Library and in our community.
Seesaw
This year, many classes were using Seesaw, an online portfolio system, to share and showcase student work with parents. As the school year draws to an end, many of these class files will be archived and your chance to download a copy of your student's work is limited. If you have previously created a parent account to access your student's work, you will have approximately sixty days after the end of the school year to download any copies of your student's work before it is removed permanently from cloud storage. Please take a look at the following document to learn how to make a copy before it is too late. http://bit.ly/SeesawDownload

Student Release Days 2017-18
CCES will have three full student release days for the 2017-2018 school year. These dates are: September 1, October 5, and March 8. All of these dates coincide with a long weekend. Please keep in mind, student attendance has an impact on our school score; otherwise, known as CCRPI. We strongly encourage you to take a look at the FCS calendar and make plans for extended vacations on these dates if possible. Our SGC strategically picked these dates to align with Milton and Northwestern; therefore, all students are out of school making travel easier for our families. We appreciate your consideration as we strive to make student attendance a priority.
