Dublin Times
August 31-September 4, 2020
Welcome Back to School!
Whether you are a My Path Student or an Our Path student, we are excited for a great year!
For our students who chose My Path, please know that your Walled Lake Mentor Teacher will soon be reaching out to you with information about the start of the school year. Expectations and online learning information will also be shared with you soon.
The students who chose Our Path will receive a Google Classroom invitation from your classroom teacher. If you haven’t already done so, please check Skyward for your classroom teacher assignment. If you do not see a classroom teacher assignment in Skyward, please reach out to the school.
The expectation for you is that you will begin your first day of school on Zoom call with your teacher and classmates. Your teacher will share that link with you prior to the start of school. Remember, your school day begins at 9am each day. Attendance counts, so please be there on time!
Whether you are a My Path Student or an Our Path Student, you are a Dublin student! You will receive weekly newsletters from me, as well as other important information when it needs to be shared.
The Dublin Staff is here to support you throughout our time away from each other. Should you have questions or concerns arise, please reach out to me and we can work together to find a solution. I can be reached at jeffreydrewno@wlcsd.org or at 248-956-3800. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Here’s to a GREAT year ahead!
Jeff Drewno
Proud Principal of Dublin Elementary School
In an effort to help with technical issues that you may have at home while learning online, WLCSD has developed a STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT REQUEST FORM. To help with technical issues, this should be the first step in letting us know the issue you are experiencing with technology at home. We can then help you as quickly as we can.
This form is always located on our Dublin web page under the FOR PARENTS tab.
There is a button below too!
Daily Learning Schedule
The week of August 31st, teachers will be spending time getting to know their students and families. They are preparing team building activities and connectors. This is also a time when we will trouble-shoot technical issues and students can start to get on a good schedule that is conducive to learning.
The week of September 7th, teachers will begin to follow a much more specific learning schedule that will include FAPES, all curricular areas, and more. Of course there will be adjustments along the way. This schedule of learning will be shared with families as well.
TYPICAL OUR PATH SCHEDULE
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00am - 4:00pm
Wednesday, Friday: 9:00am - 3:00pm
Lunch: 12:00pm - 12:40pm
Half Day Dismissal: 12:25pm
Our Path Attendance Information
Despite the fact that we are starting the 2020 - 2021 school year remotely, attendance must continue to be a priority. It is extremely important for students to log in on time, be present in the remote setting, and remain engaged throughout the entirety of the school day.
Please be reminded that our teachers will take AM and PM attendance as well as record tardies. If your child will be absent or late, or will need to end the remote day early due to illness or a scheduled appointment, you must call the attendance phone line and leave us a message to tell us.
Every teaching and learning moment is crucial and we appreciate your partnership to ensure good attendance and participation.
We recognize that there will be a learning curve during these first few weeks and we promise to be flexible and understanding as we all become comfortable with the digital platforms of Google and Zoom.

WELCOME NEW STAFF MEMBERS!
Mrs. Annie Hutchens
My name is Annie Hutchens and this will be my 12th year of teaching. I’ve moved around quite a bit. I got my Elementary Education B.S. at Appalachian State University in North Carolina where I worked as a 4th grade teacher for five years. I moved to the Colorado mountains in 2014 to pursue my love of skiing and hiking, where I also taught 4th grade for three years. While in Colorado I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University. I met my husband in Detroit in 2016, moving me to Michigan in 2017 where I started my Walled Lake career as a 2nd/3rd grade intervention teacher. The past two years I have taught 5th grade and I’m excited to be teaching 2nd grade again.
On a personal note, my husband and I have been married for a little over a year and we have a five month old daughter named Adalynn. We also have a two year old Pitbull mix, rescue pup named Lola.
Mrs. Kylie Moore
My name is Kylie Moore and I am one of the new first grade teachers here at Dublin! I previously taught at Commerce Elementary and Pleasant Lake Elementary. I am excited to be part of the Dublin team! I graduated from Oakland University in 2016 and am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Reading and Language Arts, also from Oakland. I live in Novi with my husband David and our puppy Milo!”
Mrs. Kelsey D'Andreta
Hello Dublin Families! My name is Kelsey D’Andreta (formally Pavelich) and I am so excited to be teaching 1st grade at Dublin this year. This will be my 8th year teaching. I have been teaching for 2 ½ years here in Walled Lake – I have taught K-5 academic intervention at Meadowbrook and 1st and 2nd grade at Oakley Park. I look forward to a wonderful year here at Dublin getting to know everyone.
Prior to working in Walled Lake I taught kindergarten and second grade around the Detroit area for 4 ½ years. I attended Louisiana State University for both my Bachelor and Master degree’s in Elementary education and just graduated from Michigan State University with a Master Degree in K-12 Educational Leadership. I love being in Walled Lake, as I am a proud graduate of Walled Lake Northern, and I can’t wait to start a new year here at Dublin.
When I am not in the classroom, you can find me either outside exploring new places with my husband, Tom, and our two dogs or crafting up something for our new home.
Mrs. Ann Hinterman
Hello Dublin Families! I’m looking forward to teaching Media to several Dublin classes this fall!
I have two elementary age daughters of my own, Adele (10) and Claire (7). My husband, David, teaches special education at the West Bloomfield Transition Center. We also have a cute little dog named Dory who helps keep us entertained!
This will be my 19th year of teaching. I’ve taught 5th grade, 6th and 8th grade science, and elementary media over the years. I attended Michigan State University as an undergraduate, and received my master's in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.
I enjoy teaching students all about finding information, reading, and building technology skills. I also consider myself lucky to help students and staff use our wonderful library collections!
Mrs. Allison Blais
My name is Allison Blais and I started my teaching career in 2018-19 as a Resource Room teacher in Walled Lake. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2016 from Western Michigan University in Elementary and Special Education. Currently, I’m seeking my Master’s Degree from Bowling Green State University in Special Education with an Assistive Technology certificate.
My husband’s name is Paul and we have a sweet 4-year-old basset hound named Grace. During our leisure time we love being on the water, hiking, or cooking.
I am thrilled to be part of the Dublin family and I’m inspired every day by the children I teach. Becoming successful students and citizens takes a concentrated effort by the student, teacher, and home. I anticipate a great year ahead of growth and learning!

MY Path Information for Parents
Hello MY PATH Parents:
Welcome to My Path – one of Walled Lake’s options for education this new school year! I am Dr. Lora Stout and I will be the administrator overseeing the K-12 My Path program. I’ve been in Walled Lake since the fall of 1994. Over the years I have directed the staff development program, overseen the AdvancEd accreditation process, and most recently been in charge of our State and Federal Grants program, Community Education and Adult Education. I also have been the main contact in Walled Lake for Edgenuity for the last 12 years. I have worked directly with the teachers implementing Edgenuity courseware at the secondary level and during summer school.
My Path is new territory for all of us, but we want to assure you that your students will have excellent opportunities to learn, to develop their skills and knowledge, and to create meaningful relationships with a group of wonderful Walled Lake teachers. Our teachers selected to teach in this program have been working this week on necessary training with Edgenuity and the features of the online courseware. Each of our teachers has been assigned in My Path to grade levels and courses in which they are highly qualified to teach. They will also continue to receive support from our curriculum coordinators within the District. Many of our staff have years of experience in their content areas and will be a wonderful support and guide to your child(ren) as they work within the Edgenuity curriculum. The Edgenuity curriculum is aligned to state standards and, in some cases, courses have been customized to match more specifically the content of the companion courses that are offered in our traditional program.
All of us are eager to support both you and your child(ren) to build a successful experience.
Many of you are wondering about what the first week will look like. No matter whether students are in Our Path (our school schedule) or in My Path, the teachers are working this first week on the following skills with ALL of our students:
- Making contact with each of the families on their caseload
- Setting up time to get to know the students
- Working on goal-setting for the coursework
- Setting up schedules with families for individual contact time and coaching (at the elementary level)
- Answering your questions and providing support as we launch learning online
With that said, our students are being scheduled for all their classes and course work in Edgenuity. We will be easing into the curriculum and familiarizing students with how this platform works. It’s very important to start off this way to build into a successful virtual experience.
We have two parent ZOOM meetings scheduled for Monday evening so that we can provide a fuller explanation of My Path and have an opportunity to cover frequently asked questions and share materials and resources. The parent ZOOMs will be live-streamed on Vimeo. The links are included below.
a. My Path Info Session (Elementary) (Aug. 31, 5 p.m.)
b. My Path Info Session (Secondary) (Aug. 31, 7 p.m.)
You can expect to hear from your child(ren)’s teacher(s) on Monday to get started!
Again, we are excited to get going with our families next week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lora Stout

Voluntary Student Accident Insurance
WALLED LAKE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS DOES NOT CARRY HEALTH OR ACCIDENT INSURANCE FOR STUDENTS. If your child is injured while at school, medical costs are the responsibility of the parents and/or guardians.
As a service to students and their families, our District is making available a student accident insurance plan for your child at a very nominal cost. The District offers this program because of trends in rising family health and dental insurance costs, increased deductibles, co-payments or lack of health or dental insurance coverage.
REASONS TO PURCHASE THIS COVERAGE:
- Deductible and co-pays in your health plan. Many health plans have increased the amount of out-of-pocket expenses.
- No insurance.
This plan will provide benefits for medical expenses incurred because of an accident. If you have other insurance, benefits can be applied to your deductible or co-pay. If you have no other insurance, this will become your primary accident plan.
TO PURCHASE COVERAGE ONLINE (by Credit/Debit Card) go to:
www.1stAgency.com/voluntaryaccidentcoverage.htm -- Follow directions by choosing STATE and SCHOOL DISTRICT. Visa or MasterCard is accepted.
OR
TO PAY WITH CHECK OR MONEY ORDER, PRINT BROCHURE PDF from First Agency’s website at www.1stAgency.com/voluntaryaccidentcoverage.htm -- Follow directions by choosing STATE and SCHOOL DISTRICT.
All questions regarding this coverage should be directed to First Agency, Inc., at (269) 381-6630 or toll free at (800) 243-6298.
We are pleased to make this student accident insurance plan available.
