College of Court Reporting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Valparaiso, Indiana, July 22, 2021
On July 16, 2021, College of Court Reporting (CCR) was awarded a five-year renewal grant of accreditation from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), the maximum award available for accreditation renewals. According to DEAC:
"Accreditation is a reliable indicator of the value and quality of the distance education that an institution offers. In receiving this renewal accreditation, CCR has demonstrated its commitment to educational standards and ethical business practices that assure quality, accountability, and improvement in higher education."
CCR’s first DEAC grant of accreditation was awarded on June 29, 2018; a three-year grant, which is the maximum available for new grants of accreditation. Since then, CCR worked tirelessly to continually meet or exceed DEAC policy and procedure requirements in preparation for a formal evaluation by DEAC in winter 2021. On February 25, 2021, expert evaluators conducted an all-day virtual visit with CCR to interview administrators, faculty, students, and graduates, as well as perform a comprehensive audit and assessment of CCR. Their written evaluation, along with CCR’s response, was submitted to the DEAC Board, leading to the confirmation of the five-year grant of renewal accreditation almost five months later.
DEAC is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1926 that operates as an institutional accreditor of distance education institutions. Accreditation by DEAC covers all distance education activities within an institution. DEAC grants accreditation to institutions for a specific period of time, prior to the expiration of which the institution may reapply and again be evaluated. Grants of accreditation vary in length. DEAC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The current DEAC Directory of Accredited Institutions is listed on www.deac.org.
This grant of accreditation is the culmination of a joint effort by CCR administration and staff in making sure its doors remained open even through the uncertainty and chaos of a global pandemic. In fact, during the past 18 months, 16 students graduated from CCR, which is a testament to their perseverance and resiliency during these trying times. CCR is proud of their accomplishments and is excited to move forward in its quest to educate more students in a field that is in dire need of professionals.
CCR offers an online program where students can earn an associates of applied science degree in court reporting, a certificate in court reporting, or a certificate in voice writing.
