City Property Vandalism
We would like to remind citizens that the RV Dump Station is not for yard waste. We are not sure why someone would want to do this but luckily the city crew was able to clean up the clippings and the drain was not plugged. If you see this happening, or any vandalism, please call City Hall at (208) 934-5669 or the Gooding Police Department (208) 934-8436.
Message from Police Chief Dave Fisher
The Fair and Rodeo are over and School is back in session. Please be careful and watch for our children as they go to and come home from school all over town. Given the nice weather, there may be a lot of them riding bikes as well.
We are still accepting applications for police officers and currently have two openings. Applicants should have a clean record and be able to work the varying schedule of a police officer. Also keep in mind that such a career is just that, a career that one must be willing to embrace for all of its benefits and hardships. The current climate in our country has not been favorable to law enforcement officers, which has severely hampered hiring efforts across the country. Luckily we live in an area that does support its police officers yet we still have a limited supply of qualified applicants. While law enforcement is not the highest paying job (starting wages in Gooding are $19.00 - $23.00 per hour DOE), It is a career that a person can be proud of and experience tremendous personal growth as well as career growth locally or by upward mobility through other departments across the state. Applications can be picked up at the Gooding City Hall, Gooding Police Department, or on the city’s website.
The Gooding Dog pound could also use some help as our beloved dog catcher Mike tends to some personal issues. This help would entail daily pound maintenance cleaning (morning and evening), as well as weekends and holidays. Other assistance would be appreciated in caring for the dog play yard to include mowing. If you are interested, please contact Mike Kelley through the dog pound mkelley@goodingidaho.org or Chief Fisher at dfisher@goodingidaho.org.
Message from Mayor Diane Houser
Hello citizens of Gooding. It sure has been one hot summer. Thankfully it hasn’t been so hot that we’ve had to limit the amount of water we were using on our lawns and gardens.
The Community Garden looks like it is growing pretty good. The corn has been wonderful! I have preserved lots of corn myself.
The Gooding County Fair was fantastic. Kudos to Don Gill, Jamie Lancaster and Amy Andrus for all the hard work and wonderful job getting the rodeo and fair set up. It’s great that the people in our community that couldn’t physically attend, and also the people nationwide, were able to watch the rodeo on The Cowboy Channel. They are already working on next year’s rodeo and I can’t wait to see what is in store. The rodeo and fair is beneficial for the City of Gooding and our businesses and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks to our employees that helped at the fairgrounds by picking up the garbage, hanging/taking down the big screen TV and any other help they provided.
The Streets Department, with the help of the Water/Sewer Department have begun chip sealing our streets. They will be chip sealing 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Avenue West. Please be sure you slow down so that you are not throwing chips that will crack windshields. Also, I want to thank the Streets Department for sweeping Main Street this summer. Thanks to the Idaho Transportation Department for chip sealing Main Street. It looks great.
I would like to thank Julio, Logan and Luke in our Parks Department for the wonderful job they have done this year. The parks look wonderful.
Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for the Shop Local Charm Bracelet Raffle and all of the businesses that participated. Citizens loved it and many were visiting our local businesses for the first time.
