A.W. Becker Celebrates Call To Earth Day; November 28th
November 28, 2023 was Call To Earth Day, a yearly initiative started by CNN dedicated to sustainability and conservation. The goal of the day is to work as one and celebrate positive change for our planet. Over 200,000 participants, including 235 schools, took part this year.
The students at A.W. Becker joined the call and brainstormed ideas for changes in their daily habits that would make a lasting, positive impact on their environment.
To spread awareness and share their ideas with their school community, students created a video explaining A.W. Becker's initiative toward sustainability and conservation. You can find the video here.
A.W. Becker's ideas for change in daily habits:
1. Reduce Food Waste - Instead of throwing away unwanted sealed food, share it! Create a centrally placed shared bin in the cafeteria and reduce food waste in landfills.
2. Re-Think Plastic Bottles - Reuse your bottles and recycle old plastic water bottles. Take advantage of the bottle-filling stations at school with reusable water bottles instead of purchasing new plastic bottles.
3. Use Less Plastic - Limit the use of plastic straws while drinking a carton of milk, and avoid using plastic silverware at meals. If unused, return the silverware to the cafeteria instead of throwing it away.

Kids Giving to Kids
As the holidays approach, we want to make you aware of opportunities for you to assist others
during this season of giving. The “Kids Giving to Kids” program helps to provide holiday assistance for
Becker students and their younger siblings. Donations of gift cards towards this program can honor
teachers and staff members in lieu of holiday gifts, or you may send in a gift card to honor a loved one.
Gift cards may be sent to the office in a sealed envelope addressed to Mrs. Stott along with the cut
and decorated mitten. The mittens we receive with the donations will decorate the A.W. Becker
lobby. We appreciate donations being sent in early, but they will be accepted until December 6th.
Thank you for your support ahead of time. Please email tstott@rcscsd.org if you would like any
further information.
Letters to Santa
Every year during the holidays, the Bethlehem Police Department coordinates a project with the Bethlehem Seniors. The Seniors will once again answer letters to Santa. If your child would like to participate and receive a letter back, the mailbox for letters to Santa has been delivered by the Bethlehem Police Department. It will be in the main office until 12/8. Letters should include the student's name and address.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Students will be dismissed early on December 13th and 14th for Parent Teacher Conferences. On December 19th, there is a full day of Parent Teacher Conferences and no student attendance.
On December 13th and 14th only, the following schedule will be in place:
- Buses depart at 12:30 p.m.
- Parent pick-up will begin at 12:20 p.m.
- Students will eat lunch prior to dismissal.
- After School childcare programs will be held. (No ASAP on December 19th)
- Parents/guardians should be prepared for their students to be home 3 hours earlier.
We look forward to seeing you soon! If you have yet to set up a conference with your child's teacher, please contact them or call the main office to make arrangements.
The PTA Holiday Shop is Back!
The Holiday Shop is returning again this year for the students to do some of their own shopping for families and friends and will be open the week of December 11-15! Pricing ranges from 25¢ - $12 per item and tax is included so no worries on calculating extra. Cash, checks and gift certificates are accepted.
Gift certificates can be purchased with a credit/debit card at the following link:

An envelope will be coming home by the end of next week so you can plan with your child who to shop for and price range for each.

Save the Date- Winter Wonderland!
We are excited to share with you that our school will be participating in PE Winter Wonderland and are inviting families to attend on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 OR Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Daily physical activity has many benefits for kids, such as increasing energy, focus, and readiness to learn and reducing stress and anxiety. Of course, physical activity has benefits for people of all ages, so helping our students and families be active together is one of our physical education goals.
We hope that you will participate with your child in our Winter Wonderland. Participating will give you a better understanding of the teaching and learning that goes on in physical education, and you will experience firsthand the fun and engaging activities that are helping to keep your kid(s) healthy and active.
Be on the lookout for more information and a signup for a choice of one of the dates soon!
