What Students Gain from Taking the VESL Class

Students gain the pronunciation, vocabulary, listening, reading, writing, and conversation skills you need to enter the career in which you have already earned a degree OR to enter an academic or vocational career and technical preparation program.


Study three days per week in the classroom (Monday - Wednesday). General employment topics include the following:


  • Searching and applying for jobs, selling yourself
  • Writing resumes and cover letters
  • Succeeding in a job interview
  • Communicating on the job: making small talk, giving and receiving criticism
  • Soft skills, hard skills, having a good attitude and good relationships with coworkers


Activities include English skills practice, group and project work, internet and computer use.

Study online three hours per week and prepare for a career by using state-of-the art software and our online course management system, Blackboard.

The class is held at the Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside.

Earn Certificates

Students who complete the course and a career field earn certificates of completion.

Registration

CLASS IS FREE

Students need to have completed Level 5 or be eligible for or enrolled in Level 6 or 7 to have the English abilities necessary for success in the course. Ask at the front desk for registration times.
