Exciting Math Classes

Ms. Kramer uses Quizizz to engage her students in math. There are lots of cheers (and some sighs!) as these competitive students participate in the activities, and Ms. Kramer uses the real-time class data she receives as talking points with the group. She also gets detailed individual student reports, and, students tend to strive to beat their own scores when they have opportunities to try again. Quizizz can be used in any subject.

Piktochart

What it does: Piktochart provides templates for students and teachers to create infographics (visual displays of information).

SeeSaw

What it does: Seesaw is a digital portfolio platform that allows students and teachers incorporate voice recordings, videos, photos and writing.

Who to ask: Mr. Bogue

Flipgrid

What it does: Flipgrid lets students record short videos of themselves. Other students can listen and respond, creating a community of learners that values student voice. Bonus: Connect your class with students across the globe!

Digital Notebooks

No more forgetting notebooks or having students with unorganized notes! Mr. Laue regularly uses the Nearpod notes feature. Students can annotate over a version of his slides as he presents, and these student-annotated slides are stored in each students' Google Drive. Mr. Laue can see student work real-time and has also integrated digital activities like open-ended questions, true/false questions, and graphing on Desmos into his Nearpod notes framework.

Using Technology With Purpose

Holding Kids Accountable

Señorita Sleasman's students have begun to use Screencastify as another way to account for their speaking in Spanish. The students can even use this tool to listen back to themselves, encouraging them to reflect and deepen their learning.

Visit Borneo

Mr. Quigley took his College Ecology class on a virtual field trip to Borneo, using Google's virtual reality Expeditions app. Change in the environment was brought to life. One student even noted that the experience made him want to travel.

Be Internet Awesome

Mrs. Klein uses parts of Google's Be Internet Awesome program to teach students about digital citizenship. Ask her for tips if you want to help your students be responsible digital citizens.

Students Explore the World

When she's not taking her students on trips to Québec, Madame Clements helps her students explore their word virtually. In one activity, her students used Google Earth to visit a French city of their choice. They all compiled their findings, which included screenshots from Google Earth, into a collaborative Google Slides presentation, allowing them to learn from each other. Students especially enjoyed using street view in Google Earth to "walk" through the streets of France.

Author-Illustrators

Mrs. Del Greco's talented kindergarten kids are working hard, writing and illustrating their own stories. They are so excited! Details of this awesome project will be shared as they finish up!

Create VR

Would you believe that creating your own VR experience is simple? Mr. DiSilvestro, Mr. Erwin and Señorita Sleasman are currently exploring this idea. Ask one of them or Rachel for more information!
