4th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back -
We began our energy unit by looking at particles and how they move when energy is added or lost. What are we really measuring when we look at the temperature of something? Our study of the physics of energy in the coming weeks will help us to understand and explain much of what we see every day.
Looking Ahead –
Next week we will explore how energy is transferred from one substance to another. We know we can heat up or cool down things in the kitchen or the laboratory, but what exactly is happening when we do this. We will investigate the new sciences of energy transfer such as microwaves and convection ovens as we learn more about energy uses.
Special Note: You will see two more Stride Science lessons on your weekly schedule. Try to devote one hour (or two 30 minute sessions) to these lessons each week.
Science News for the Week: I know that there were many students who watched the lunar eclipse on Jan. 20-21st, and there were some spectacular photos sent to me by students. What you may not have realized (I didn’t) is that there was a meteorite that hit the moon during the eclipse. You can learn more about how the moon’s surface is still being bombarded by meteorites, forming new craters, in this article. You can explore how to create craters at home in this video. It's a cool investigation you can do on your own.
