Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Well done to the Year 8 girls for winning the county schools challenge based on fire prevention. They will now compete against other schools in the county.

Subject Highlights:
Maths:
Ms Adamska has nominated Year 8 students Lucas, Alan, Arianah, Mateusz, Aurelia, Bradley, Amelia and Katie for their outstanding effort and hard work in the lessons this week.
Miss Kaur would like to say well done to 9A3 for their enthusiasm shown in representing data lessons. Also nominated are 7N for a brilliant first lesson on data representation, students were working very hard to draw and interpret histograms and 9A3 for working hard and achieving fantastic results on their Find the Gaps. The students are eager to do well, and their enthusiasm is shining through. Keep working hard 9A3!
Miss Harrison has nominated Year 10 students Liam M and Rene H for their excellent work on time series graphs. They completed a goal-free exercise to interpret different pieces of information from a single graph.
Mrs Wynn has nominated 7ST for an excellent lesson with line graphs, with a special mention to Liam J for a perfect explanation of method and answer for an angle fact. Also nominated are 9C2 who have been making significant progress.
Mrs van der Lith has nominated Cerys (Year 10) for making amazing progress in Mathematics and getting the second highest score in the class for a Find the Gap test. Also nominated is 8B2 Mathematics class for showing lots of enthusiasm when we were learning about two way tables and using them to find other information.
Mr Horne has nominated Year 8 students Majka, Kate and Connor for excellent work on their statistics project.

Year 7:
Year 7 have started learning their parts for a whole class xylophone and glockenspiel performance. This week Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 7SW for their brilliant organisational skills and for using their practice room time very effectively - brilliant work!
Year 8:
Year 8 have added a syncopated bassline to their dance tracks this week and it has been lovely to hear how student work has developed throughout the term. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 8ST for their brilliant attitude to learning this term, with a special mention to Ryan, Maya, Kuba and Jessica for layering their tracks in a way that is consistent with electronic dance music conventions - well done!
Year 9:
Year 9 have added a tutti section to their samba compositions this week. Students have been challenged to build upon skills that we have been building throughout the year - and Miss Patrick has been really impressed with how students have rose to this challenge. A special mention to 9TA this week for their creative compositions. Keep up the good work!
English:
Miss Magnay has been so impressed with the focus of 9CZ as they read through the novel 'Salt to the Sea'. They have asked lots of excellent questions looking at a complex topic. Additionally, 7A1 have done some brilliant annotations for war poetry. A special mention to Jack in 7ST for his amazing contributions to this! Finally, 8B1 have been reading the 'The Tempest' and the following students have taken on reading roles each lesson: Olivia, Harley, Cyrus, Rhys, Riley. They have done extremely well with a challenging text!
Mr Toye has nominated Year 8 student Alex P for an excellent attempt at a PEEL paragraph and mature responses! Also nominated is Year 9 student Dominik for constant high-effort and excellent engagement in learning.
Mrs Brown has nominated the following students who did brilliantly on their last poetry assessment as they really focused on poetic methods:
Eva, Amie-Leigh, Ruben, Nikodem, Melissa,Ella, Robert and Isabel all made particularly good progress managing to improve their level, some by two grades on the last poetry assessment!
The English department are very pleased with the turnout by Year 11 for our first conference recently. 45 students attended for a Literature Paper 2 Walking Talking mock. Engagement was excellent, and students went through all questions receiving top tips and support from the English department. Students were able to discuss ideas for answering questions and key quotations they would use. The next conference is 10th May and will feature an hour of quizzes to test your knowledge. Prizes will be available so be there!
Miss Lodge has nominated the following this week:
9AZ have been doing some fantastic work this term on their novel 'Salt to the Sea' they have had some really insightful and mature discussions about the text and made brilliant links to historical context.
Also nominates Darcy T in (8AY) for a great understanding of our study of The Tempest and for making some fantastic contributions to class discussions, Year 11 student Dawa for continued commitment to his English Literature studies by completing practice essays in his own time for revision and being proactive in receiving feedback to improve.
Miss Magnay and Miss Lodge have also been really impressed with Year 11 students Dawa, Shammah, Anastasiia, Ellie and Joel who frequently stay after school for English revision sessions showing a fantastic commitment to their studies in the run up to the GCSE exams.
Mrs Morris would like to congratulate the Year 11 Media students. They produced some fantastic revision materials last week and showed real enthusiasm for the tasks we were completing. Also nominated are Year 12 Creative Digital Media Production students Daisy, Bhanu and Fraser for fantastic character profile art work.
Mrs Morris has also nominated Year 11 students Victoria L, Harley R, Jana O, Theo R, Adam S and Annie C, Alicia S and Georgiana L for outstanding effort in creative writing.
Humanities:
Miss Forbes has nominated Year 11 student Joshua for excellent History revision.
Mr Hallas has nominated Year 12 student Lexi for excellent homework, Year 11 student Emma for excellent contributions in lesson and Year 9 student Beatrice for always displaying an excellent attitude to learning.
Mr Goddard has nominated 8CO for doing exceptionally well in their source assessments. They’ve shown real grit in these investigations!
Mr Strumpher has nominated 11A Geography class for working hard and engaging in their Pre-Release of the GCSE examination.
Miss Buffini would like to say well done to Year 7 who took park and listened well in the Smashed workshop on Monday. Also nominated are 9CU and 9CO for their work on the Holocaust memorial. Miss Buffini is looking forward to your finished presentations. You have worked are and with so much respect for what you are doing.
Mrs Brown has been very proud of both Year 10 and Year 11 Sociology groups this week. Year 11 completed their last mock before the May exams and showed resilience and fortitude even though they find time management really hard. Some notable celebrations are:
Mya, Ella, Kent, Amie-Leigh, Amelia, Neva, Sanita, Anastasiia and Shammah.
Year 10 sociology have been working with numeracy and data analysis. This week we have been evaluating theoretical issues with data collection. Though not easy they have coped very well and continue to impress Mrs Brown every day with their enthusiasm and love of the subject!
Spanish:
Mrs Gonzalez-Villamil Lean has nominated Y11CSP1 for their efforts and resilience in their Spanish Speaking mocks. It can be quite daunting but they all worked through it.
Mrs Sahota has made the following nominations this week:
Mrs Sahota would like to nominate and praise the effort, hardwork and perseverance that Year 11B Spanish applied during their Spanish Speaking Exams. A special mention goes to Gabriela, Jana, Amelia, Alicia and Floreen who have shown great determination, dedication and effort in achieving their best in the speaking exam this week. Well done!
Also nominated is 8SW Spanish who have all demonstrated great independent learning skills in lessons this week! Well done! Finally Year 9 students Aleksandra, Kirat, Ugne and Nikola have been nominated for their great commitment and high standards applied each week in their homework and Year 10 students, Veronika for her wonderful writing, hardwork and superb attitude to learning and Bianca for her positive attitude, helpfulness and great work ethic. Always willing and ready to learn. Well done!
DT and Engineering:
Mr Harley has nominated Megan in 9CU for her excellent book work and contributions to the DT lesson.
Mr McCrory has nominated 7CA who created a fantastic selection of wooden cars with Jack C and Emma J being the stand out cars, with great shaping, sanding and finishing.
Also nominated is Year 10 student Nicco who has made a mixed material lamp project from wood and metal.
Mr Hirst would like to say well done to Year 11 Engineering students who have completed their synoptic project this week!
Computer Science:
Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate the following students:
Year 7CA students have been considering the search terms needed to find specific content on the web. Students have searched the web to find content they deem good, which they will capture and annotate digitally. Students move between applications and use a variety of applications and tools. The following students have gone that extra mile to excel in using their search skills:
Alfred, Dyllon, Nadia, Tarell, Emma. Cornelia, Anna, Emma, Jody, Ariana, Analeigh, Isla, Keigan, Mark, Jahari and Josh.
9CA/CS1, 9SW/CS1, 9TU/CS1, 9TA/CS1, have been introduced to the investigative cycle PPDAC (problem, plan, data, analyse, conclusion) and applying part of this cycle to a data set about roller coasters. The following students have excelled with their skills:
Klaudia, Grace, Victoria, Maddie, Lubo, Losif, Olivia, Oliwia, Fraya, Veronia, Sian, Faith, Karina, Veronica, Karina, James, Roisin, Kaitlyn, Gabriela, Nikola, Mia, Kristof, Leah, Aleksandra and Kailyn.
Year 10D/CS1 students have been focusing on Systems Architecture this week. Thestudents below have shown motivation and dedication to their learning and managing to get all tasks completed during the lesson: Robert, Mariyah, Kacper, Joshua, Max, Rhys, Shane, Dominika, Arian, Cole, Freddie, Dominik, Benjamin, Mihai, Marian, Keely, Stas, Zhivko, Harrison, Daniel, Toby, Toby, Tyler, Oliver and Linards.
PE:
Miss Williams would like to congratulate the girls who attended netball club, who played brilliantly and for the older students taking leadership of the session and helping coach the younger students.
Science:
Miss Kritzinger has nominated 8CX for great science work this week and last. Also nominated are 7TE for a great practical, thermally decomposing calcium carbonate into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
Miss Coulson has nominated Year 10 student Bailey for his excellent home learning work this week. I would also like to give a special mention to Liam B and Dylan H in Year 10 who have been really focused in their lessons looking at Maths in Chemistry.
Mr Godfrey has nominated Year 10 students Freddie P and Shanli for their great contributions in the space topic and Year 12 students Cameron, Abigail and Oskar S for their efforts away from the classroom.
Spanish Language Conference
We were really fortunate to have had some of our fantastic Year 11s attend the Spanish Languages Conference after school last Wednesday. They practiced their GCSE Speaking exam roleplay skills and had a group competition to write the best extended text about holidays. There was a lot of healthy rivalry between the groups and in the end, we had joint winners. Thank you to all of you who attended: Mrs Gonzalez, Mrs Bartlett and Mr Cancelo enjoyed all your positive contributions!
Year 8 Science:
Year 8 have been extracting DNA from peas with Mr Tanangonen. This was a tricky and complicated practical but a lot of the students were able to actual extract their DNA – this can be seen as the cloudy substance on the surface of the boiling tube.
Year 12 Duke of Edinburgh:
Year 12 Gold Duke of Edinburgh students have been busy route planning for their practice expedition.
Chess Tournament:
Miss Kidner would like to say well done to all students that took part in this term's chess tournament.
1st place - Theo - Year 11

3rd place - Robert-Lee - Year 11
Miss Kidner would also like to say well done to mentions to Calvin (Year 12), Dylan C(Year 11) and Harley R(Year 11).
Filip is highest in the leader board for Year 9 and Alex P is highest for Year 8.
Author Visit:
Well done to Year 7 and 8 students who showed great enthusiasm when listening to author Anna James. Anna mentioned she's attended many events and has never had such insightful questions.
