Early School Closure
We would like to remind all our families of the protocols and procedures which we follow regarding all school closures. If it is deemed necessary to close schools due to weather, District Office personnel will make an announcement on the local AM/FM radio stations, status central (please note below the steps to access this system through the District website) and Twitter. The target time will be 6:30 am. In the event of a school closure after school has already started, we will use a system called School Messenger as well. This system will allow the school to send a call to the phone numbers/text/email addresses that you provided in September on your child’s registration form. Therefore, it continues to be essential that the school has up to date contact information. If the information you provided in September on your child’s registration form changes throughout the year, please make contact with the office and your child’s teacher. It is also important that your child is aware of the plans that you’ve put in place for them in the case of a school emergency. We will require confirmation that you received the message on these types of school closures to confirm dismissal plans. We will also communicate any closures that occur during the day through our school twitter, webpage and email.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: If you have a message for your child regarding dismissal, please ensure you call back to speak to a person rather than leaving it as a message on the answering machine as we can not guarantee that someone will have checked it before dismissal time.

Mental Health Moment
According to www.teenmentalhealth.org, "Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a disruption in how your brain controls the signals it uses to identify danger and initiate action to help you avoid it. However, in GAD, this signaling mechanism does not work as it should and you experience the danger signal when there is no danger. GAD is excessive anxiety and worry about everyday events that occurs over a prolonged period of time. Someone with GAD worries excessively about many different things and is not able to control his or her worry. The worrying and anxiety causes serious emotional distress, and causes problems at school, at work, and in relationships. These feelings of anxiety usually also have physical components, including headaches, aches and pains, nausea, shaking and sweating.
Feeling anxious in response to danger or in new situations is a perfectly normal response. It’s called the fight-or-flight response and helps us survive in dangerous situations. But these typical feelings are different from GAD. A person with GAD constantly feels tense and on edge, even when there is no danger present."
