7th Grade Girls Basketball

Tryouts for the upcoming 7th grade girls basketball season will be held on Thursday, October 14th and Tuesday, October 19th from 3:30-5:00 pm. Players must attend both tryout dates and a current physical must be on file with the nurse in order to be eligible to participate. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Coach Kurtz (kurtz@ogschool.org).

8th Grade Girls Basketball

8th grade girls basketball season is about to begin! The information meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 13th during recess in Room 204. We will talk about tryouts, schedules, and team expectations. If you have any questions, email Mr. Potter at potter@ogschool.org.

ATTENTION 5-8 SCIENTISTS!

If you signed up for Science Club, you should have received an email invitation to join our Google Classroom. We will be meeting this week on Wednesday, from 3:30-4:30 PM, in Mrs. Edelson's Science Lab (Room 305).

Here are the meeting dates for the rest of the 2021-2022 school year:

Fall Wednesdays: 10/13, 10/27, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 12/15

Winter Fridays: 1/21, 2/4, 2/18

We held our 8th grade student council elections last week. We are happy to announce our officers for the school year:

Now it is time to begin asking for our volunteers who wish to join this club. No email will be sent out to parents. Please read the weekly Oak Grove News for announcements. Students: We also place information in the school announcements.

Any 6th, 7th, and 8th grader interested in joining student council this year, we have 3 informational meetings this week. You should choose one to join. All will be google meets held during I/E time.

Option 1: Wednesday, October 13 2:50-3:10

Option 2: Thursday, October 14 2:50-3:10

Option 3: Friday, October 15 2:50-3:10

After this week's meetings, students will be asked to complete a form if they choose to join this group.

Preschool screening will be held at Oak Grove on Wednesday, October 20th from 12:30-3:30 pm. The screening is for three and four year olds. The screening will examine a child's proficiency in speech/language and motor development, as well as assess pre-academic skills. Parents with questions or concerns about their child's development may schedule an appointment by contacting Julie Waehner at waehner@ogschool.org

Final Week to Submit Videos For the We Are Eagles Dance Challenge

This is the final week to submit videos for the We Are Eagles Dance Challenge! Submit early, submit often! Students can earn one point for their grade for EACH video they submit, and the grade with the most entries will win a frozen treat party from the PTO! Caramel Apple Pickup

If you ordered caramel apples from the PTO sale, please remember to pick them up on either Friday, October 15th or Saturday, October 16th between 10am-9pm at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Libertyville (541 N. Hello Oak Grove families,

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Oak Grove School Education Foundation (OGSEF) for their continued support. This fall, 24 mini-grants were approved and funded to support our students and teachers. Flexible seating in classrooms, opportunities for STEM activities, Apple pencils,as well as many other wonderful opportunities are being supported by these grants. The OGSEF also offers other grant opportunities to fund innovative and creative projects throughout the school year as well.

October 22 is Illinois Bus Driver Appreciation Day

While our bus service has offered its challenges this year, our drivers have been doing their best to abide by our health and safety mitigation practices and to get our children home safely. We will continue to work with Durham on health and safety procedures, as well as any options for improving the efficiency of both morning and afternoon routes. If you and your child/ren have time to create a card of appreciation for their efforts, I know the driver/s will appreciate hearing from you.

Parent Teacher Conferences

In preparation for November’s Parent Teacher Conferences, we would like to hear from parents and guardians about the preference between meeting with teachers virtually or in-person. As we would like to accommodate your preference, our scheduling process requires that we create blocks of time for each type. Please complete this short survey by October 22 to help us learn more about how much time we should plan to block out for both in-person and virtual conferences.

Yard Sign

Many of you have asked for a wooden Oak Grove yard sign. We heard you and the student council is coming through!

If you are interested in purchasing a sign for your yard, we are offering this as a pre-sale as these are made to order. The yard signs are made of solid wood, measure 16” x 12” are painted OGS blue with white lettering. The cost for the sign is $35 and can be ordered on our RevTrak payment system using this direct link: https://ogs.revtrak.net/student-council/

The sale is open now and will close on Friday, November 5. All orders will be ready on or before our week of parent/ teacher conferences during Thanksgiving week. When yours is ready for pick up, we will contact you.
