TMS 6 - 8 Continuous Learning Plan

Welcome to our Torrington Public Schools Continuous Learning Plan for middle school students! We have missed you and are dedicated to supporting your learning throughout this new educational experience. Teachers have created self-paced and flexible learning opportunities that will develop core skills and keep students engaged.

Students will be using Google Classroom as the primary tool to experience online learning at TMS. Teacher lessons will engage students in learning, while reinforcing skills through the use of new content. Teachers will assign a reasonable amount of work for students to complete at their own pace, and will encourage them to complete assignments, balancing their online workload with other needs.

Teachers are ready to assist you with any questions, and can’t wait to be back in touch with you all. Teachers will be available to help clarify and identify learning objectives for the various lessons throughout the week and will be posting open Office Hours to address any questions you may have. For any questions about how to access Google Classroom, or how to complete the assignments, students should contact their teachers directly. If you have any technology issues or you require assistance, please send an email to the Technology Department at help@torrington.org.

As parents/guardians it is helpful to provide a time for students to work. Students can complete their work when it best meets their schedule. TMS staff is aware that students may have to share devices to do their work in a household. Teachers will assign lessons in Google Classroom every Friday. This will allow for flexibility in terms of pacing and completion. Students can begin work as soon as they see their lessons posted in Google Classroom. Each teacher will remain flexible as we communicate and move forward in our continued learning plan for the first time.

In order to navigate this new learning, it is important for students to set up a daily schedule. TMS staff recommend that middle school students participate in each content areas for the following minutes daily:

Language Arts (Reading & Writing) = 40 minutes per day

Mathematics = 20 minutes per day

TAKE A BRAIN BREAK, Refuel

Social Studies = 20 minutes per day

Science = 20 minutes per day

Art/Music/PE/STEM/ World Language = 40 minutes per day

FLEXible Time = 30 minutes (Spend time on something that interests you and explore even further, think about how you could help or send someone some happiness each day). Students should work at their own pace and reach out to teachers and classmates for support.
