WELCOME BACK!
We hope you have a great Winter Break. It was nice to have students back in the building. We are are about to enter the last week of 2nd term. Please help your student see what they can do to get on track in classes. Let us know how we can help.
ID BADGE REQUIREMENT
Beginning 2nd Semester students must have their ID badge for classes. If they don't have their ID badge, they will need to get a sticker from the office. They will receive a $1.00 fine. After five instances of not having their badge, a new badge will be printed for them.
If they have lost their badge and need a new one, they can come in and pay the $5.00 fee for a new one.
END OF TERM
The last day of 2nd term will be Friday, January 14th. Students need to get things turned into their teachers based on the guidelines teachers have shared.
Teachers will have a Professional Day on January 18th to finalize grades etc. Grades will be posted on Wednesday, January 19th after 3:30 PM.
SCHEDULE CHANGES CLOSE ON JANUARY 13TH.
To request a schedule change fill out the Schedule Change Request Form and email the form to your counselor. If your request is approved, a $10 class schedule change fee will be added to your student's myDSD account.
GRADING IN SUMMIT
Remember our role is to teach the concepts that students need to be successful. We know students are going to learn these concepts at different times; therefore, their grade is going to change A LOT throughout the year.
Some things parents can to do help reinforce the learning is to....
- Check for anything RED - RED means the work is past due or that it hasn't been turned in.
- Check for anything YELLOW - YELLOW means there is feedback. The students should look at the feedback and make corrections to their checkpoints etc.
- Help students prepare effective notes Here's a standard note sheet that we use. If they use this format, it will help them learn how to take notes effectively.
- Come in for help! We will meet with you and help you. Just contact us and let us know. You can find our contact information down below.
SUMMIT QUESTION / TIP OF THE WEEK
Direct instruction from teachers is lost with Summit.
At Legacy Junior High School, we believe that all styles of instruction are valuable, and we encourage and trust our teachers to provide the right type of instruction at the right time. Multiple modes of instruction are used at our school including direct instruction, small group instruction, self-directed learning time and instruction, one-on-one instruction, and many others. The thought that direct instruction is no longer used in education is a fallacy, and we believe that direct instruction is a valuable tool for teachers to use at the right time and in the right way.
