For the Week of January 10-14
Estimados Padres,
Gracias,
Mrs. O’Hair
Directora de la Escuela Elemental de Shady Grove

Notice of Screening for Dyslexia and Related Disorders for First Grade Students
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Texas Education Code (§38.003) mandates that all first grade students be screened for dyslexia and related disorders no later than January 31, 2022. The screening is designed to ensure that all students are appropriately screened, and if necessary, are evaluated further so that reading difficulties will be addressed in a timely manner. The results from the screening will be used to guide instruction at the classroom level, shared with you, and used to determine if additional interventions are required for your student.
If you have any questions about the screening process, please contact Cole Davis, Ph.D. at 512-715-5107.
Thank you,
Burnet Consolidated Independent School District
Gracias,
Burnet Consolidated Independent School District
Day of service
January 17, 2022 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for BCISD students, it is also a school day. Traditionally, BCISD has held school on MLK day to educate students about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his belief that "life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'what are you doing for others?'" The districts goal is for "students to learn about the contributions and sacrifices of Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in service projects on their campus and around the community."
Our plan this year is to expand our outreach and have more of a presence within the community! Each grade level will be traveling to their assigned destination in town to personally deliver their items!
PreK - make cards and sing for residents at Country Oaks Assisted Living and Pafford Place
Kindergarten - make and deliver treats for the local Fire and Police Department
1st Grade - make and deliver treats to local healthcare workers at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital
2nd Grade - pick up trash at the local YMCA parks
Please watch for important information and permission slips coming home this week. Please note that students will not be entering any facilities off of campus due to health concerns.

COVID-19
As a reminder, the 10-day COVID isolation rule for students has not changed. The current guidance from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is for COVID-positive students to isolate until at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset or testing positive, be fever-free, and other symptoms have improved. Fever-free means for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications (Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit or higher).
It is possible that the DSHS isolation rule for COVID-positive students may be updated in the near future. Watch your email for news of any updates.
You may review the District's COVID protocols, access the BCISD Self-Reporting form, and view the BCISD COVID-19 Case Dashboard by clicking the button below.
Report cards for the 3rd six weeks posted to Family Access on Jan 6th. Remember to electronically sign the report after viewing. See directions below.
Behind the scenes at SGE last week...
We have 4 new students to add to the "Caught with Character" wall of fame! Teachers recognized these kids for acts such as being respectful, being positive examples for classmates, showing concern for others' feelings, encouraging friends, and making growth in behavior!
Kids with character grow into adults with character!

Visitors are welcome for lunch!
We are happy to announce that because of the continued decline in COVID case numbers, parents are once again permitted to visit Burnet CISD elementary campuses for lunch. Visitors will continue to be restricted during breakfast time so that the instructional day can begin without any delays.
Please read the following important information carefully prior to visiting during lunch beginning December 1st:
Because of previous visitor restrictions, we realize there may be a high demand to come for lunch, especially in the first few weeks. Large number of visitors will cause a delay of the check-in process at front offices. You can help by having your ID ready when going through the check-in process.
Visitor seating is limited, and we request parents limit their lunch visits to no more than one time a week. If we are unable to safely and efficiently accommodate the demand of lunch time visitors, we may need to implement protocols such as assigned days by alpha or a pre-registration system.
Because of supply chain issues in the food service industry, any visitors for lunch must bring their own food to ensure that we can reliably feed all students.
Only those individuals listed as an emergency contact for a child are permitted to visit for lunch.
A separate table will be designated for lunch visitors and their student. Friends of the child being visited are not permitted to join. Outside food may not be shared with friends of the student.
Lunch visitors are permitted in the cafeteria.
Please be respectful of the student’s instructional schedule. The student should return to the classroom with his/her classmates when the lunch time ends.
The health of the community is a driving piece in the ability to keep the campus open to visitors. As stated in the BCISD Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services plan, the District DOES expect each individual to screen himself/herself prior to arriving on BCISD property. An individual with symptoms of a contagious illness should remain home.

Car Line Reminders
We have observed that some cars are driving past the line of cars on CR 200, turning into the fire lane, and then cutting into their lane in front of all of the cars who are following the appropriate car line procedures. Be kind in line!
Other general reminders:
-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!
