Join us in the Sunken Ballroom to review and celebrate our past work and continued partnership. You will have the opportunity to experience the Africa Fashion exhibit and enjoy delicious catered food from local, Black-owned business Kitchen Killa.

Time: 3:00 to 7:00PM
Location: Sunken Ballroom- Portland Art Museum: 1219 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205
RSVP Here: (RSVP with this form or QR code in flyer: forms.gle/LDPt4HeT19Gb3RXc6.)
Suggested Attire: Attendees are encouraged to wear Black or African-designed and inspired attire.
Because of you–our partners and the incredible individuals who inform our work, Multnomah County secured continued funding through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for another 5-year REACH cycle. To express our deep gratitude, we invite you to take a pause for collective celebration in honor of Black History Month.
We will gather in the Sunken Ballroom to reflect on our collective achievements and celebrate our continued partnership. Refreshments will be provided by the local Black-owned luxury catering company and restaurant Kitchen Killa. Attendees are encouraged to wear Black or African-designed and inspired attire. Black History Month 2024 is highlighting “African Americans and the Arts,” which is influenced and inspired by the experiences of the African diaspora worldwide. In this spirit, you will also have a chance to see the Africa Fashion exhibit which will be hosted at the Portland Art Museum until February 18.
We thank you for your dedication and continued partnership that makes this difficult yet necessary work possible.
See you in on Tuesday, February 6th.

Evening scholars registration opens Monday 2/5 for second semester!
If your high school student is behind in credits toward graduation, would rather take a particular graduation required class outside of the regular school day, or would like to get ahead on their graduation requirements, this is an excellent opportunity. Credit advancement students will be placed last as long as there is room in the class.
Classes will be held from February 19 - May 23 (no classes during spring break)
Classes meet from 5:00 - 8:00pm, once per week, for 13 weeks.
All classes are in-person and attendance is required.
Our Evening Scholars sites are: Roosevelt, Grant, McDaniel, and Franklin campuses.
To register, students must meet with their counselor to review their transcript, and registration is by the counselor
Please contact our school counselor, Benner for class options/availability, if you’d like to register, or if you have any questions. Some classes fill up fast so please reach out if interested. gbenner@pps.net

SAVE THE DATE: MLC PTSA ANNUAL AUCTION
Friday, May 10
The Evergreen, 618 SE Alder St
The MLC PTSA Annual Auction is our largest fundraiser of the year and a fun opportunity to come together and celebrate the magic of MLC. Over the coming months, we'll share details about how MLC families can help us put on an entertaining event that both raises funds and builds community. We can’t do it without you!
DONATE (and/or ask others to do so!): Do you own a small business? Or perhaps know someone who does? How about a vacation rental or time share? Do you have a skill to share? Do you have items in new condition that you don’t need and you’d rather pass on to a good cause? Perhaps you have a drawer full of old gift cards and certificates that you haven't used but that are still giftable (I can’t be the only one?!)? Please consider donating your time, talent or treasures to the auction!
We are looking for event sponsors as well as goods & services that we can package together to sell at our silent and live auction events. There is no limit (big OR small!) and each and every item truly helps…gift cards/certificates, physical items, artwork, experiences, Airbnb stays, festival tickets, bottles of wine, photography sessions, signed books…think outside the box about what *YOU* can offer, or ask your favorite business what they can contribute!
Use our online donation form (or grab a paper donation form from the PTSA cubby in the MLC office). If you’d like a template donation request letter, just ask and we’d be happy to share.
We’re also looking for folks to host Buy-in Parties! Find more info on the INTEREST FORM
VOLUNTEER: Most needed roles right now include:
Creative Graphic Designer Type: help design website/poster/materials (early February)
Videographer: make a call-to-action video (March/April)
Photographer: take pictures of donated items / baskets (mid April)
Class Art Project Leads: assist your kid’s classroom teacher (and/or others!) with class projects (ongoing)
Contact Sierra Stringfield Perryman with any questions or if you are interested in getting involved!
ONGOING FUNDRAISER: BOTTLE DROP
BottleDrop is the most convenient way to recycle your Oregon beverage containers and an easy way for you to help fundraise for our school! Grab one of the MLC labeled BottleDrop blue bags from the front office at MLC, collect your redeemable containers, then drop them off at one of the BottleDrop bag collection points.Contact Adam Perryman with questions or to get more bags.

TOURS AND ENROLLMENT
MLC Tours for Interested Students & Families
Exploring school options to determine the best fit for a student can be both exciting and anxiety producing. We believe getting to actually see the surrounding location and have a guided tour of the building can be very helpful in this decision-making process. To accommodate the numerous requests for tours, we offer a monthly tour for up to 10 interested families on the second Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm and will last approximately 45-60 minutes.
February 8
March 14
April 11
May 9
Please email Benner, our 7-12 counselor to initiate the sign up process or if you have any questions. gbenner@pps.net
When the lottery dates are announced we will also host an evening open house event for families. Please check our website for updates.
