Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

Today, during our Memorial Day Ceremony, we reflected and paid tribute to our country’s finest and those who have sacrificed so much for each of us.

One of our 4 PBIS pillars at EHMS is pride. Today, I want you all to take a moment to reflect on this word and think about what it means to you. It is with great honor that we are given the opportunity to humbly thank our service members. We have visitors today who have served as active members. They all exemplify the word pride and we should strive to follow their lead by taking pride in what we do every day. Memorial Day is only one day a year, however, by demonstrating pride in your everyday life, we can show appreciation for their commitment and sacrifice.

Thank you to our visitors and State Representative Irene Haines, who spoke with our students today.

6th Grade Festival of Flight!

Our 6th graders had an afternoon of flight! Visiting different stations through the afternoon, students extended their learning from their experience in Technology Education. Mark DiTommaso of Marlborough, CT and Dean Brown of East Hampton, CT flew their helicopters and landed them on the parking lot of the Middle School. Students had the opportunity to talk to the pilots, see inside the helicopters, and learn the mechanics of how they fly.

Michael Gosselin of Cromwell, CT is a Master RC Airplane Pilot was here. He had some of his planes available for students to view. He demonstrated how the planes fly, did some fancy tricks with them for the students, and some students got a chance to try their hand at RC piloting themselves!
During the school year, every 6th grade student built their own model rocket. Throughout the event, they had a chance to launch their rockets. There will be about 150 model rocket launches in total. Chris Mansfield of East Hampton is a model rocket expert and will be assisting with the launches.

Students also met with several members of the Community who work in the aviation industry. Students learned what it is like to work in the field and how these people learned the skills they needed to work in these careers:

Thomas Barry of East Hampton, CT is an Advanced Military Programs engineer with Pratt and Whitney.

Markus Luukko of Southington, CT is an Assembly Equipment Design Engineer with Pratt and Whitney.

Arianna Strand is a pilot and Certified flight instructor with Learn2FlyCT.

We can't say how proud we are enough of our 8th graders and their capstone projects. Our students have done a tremendous job completing their projects and presenting them at Wednesday night's Capstone Convention. Congratulations!

Below are some of the projects shared and we will continue to share out more over our final Panther Post editions!

6th Grade ELA

Sixth graders have completed their last reading unit of the school year. Their culminating project was a poster featuring the main character of their book and the lesson they learned from the character.

Bike Club Season Comes to an End!

The EHMS Bike Team competed in their final race of the season yesterday at Ledyard Middle School.

The Panthers' Charlotte Daniels and Abby Hambidge dominated as usual and taking first and second place in the girls category. For the boys, it was once again Dolan Krasnitski finishing on the podium in second place and Forrest Bellucci taking 10th place for the boys.

For the individual final standings Charlotte was awarded the champion's jersey and trophy for finishing in first place among all girls for the season! For the final individual boys standings, Dolan also snagged a trophy, finishing second among all boys!

As a team, the Panthers put up a valiant effort to try and prevent Ledyard from repeating as season champs, but came up just short finishing in second in the team standings.

Great job to all the racers who competed this season!

EHMS PTO! EHMS PTO!

Find out how you can help with this GREAT CAUSE – our kids, our school!

East Hampton Middle School PTO needs Board members and volunteers for the 2023-24 school year

Grab a friend and join us to say hello and learn more:

Wednesday, May 31st between 5:30 and 6:30pm in the EHMS front office

Interested but can't make it? Email us at ptoehms@gmail.com and we will arrange to meet up another time.

With our current Board members moving on to the high school, your help is KEY to ensuring that EHMS PTO can continue to support our school! All the PTO funding ($10,000+ per year) that benefits EHMS will just - POOF! - disappear when nobody is left to lend a hand. We are willing to show you the ropes - you won't be left to figure it all out all alone :-) There are so many things you can help with - even for one event - so that the PTO can continue to support our kids!

Volunteers are needed for the following planning committees. If nobody steps forward, the events won't take place and fundraising is at risk for next school year:

  • Pantherfest (three or four coordinators needed)
  • Spirit Wear (one coordinator)
  • Teacher / Staff Appreciation (two coordinators)
  • Teacher Conference Dinners (two coordinators)
  • Munson's Fundraising (one coordinator)
  • Panther Prowl (two coordinators)
  • Yard Goats (one coordinator)

We look forward to welcoming you to EHMS PTO, whether as a Board member or volunteer. Thank you!

8th Grade End of Year Events

With the start of spring comes planning for all our end of the year events. We have been honored with the opportunity to see your child grow over the last three years. Each student has become an integral part of our Panther community and has evolved into an individual with interests, passions, and goals. We look forward to partnering with you as we open the doors to your child’s high school experience and all the opportunities that await while celebrating and closing the door to all they have accomplished over the last three years at EHMS.

We are planning a culminating event for our 8th graders. On Thursday June 8th at 1:00, we will hold our 2nd annual 8th grade Step-Up ceremony in our gymnasium. We will continue to celebrate our students that evening (June 8th) with our 8th Grade Formal that will be held at EHMS from 7pm to 9pm. We encourage all families to come for pictures starting at 6:30pm. The next day, our students will be attending their 8th grade High Meadow class field trip on Friday June 9th. More specifics to these events will be communicated out, but we wanted to provide you the dates to save in your calendars! If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out to administration or our 8th grade co-advisors; Mrs. Donovan and Mrs. Mercaldi.

Important Attendance Reminder Important Attendance Reminder

A reminder that the following email addresses can be used by parents to report and document their approval of an absence:

Memorial_Attendance@easthamptonct.org

Center_Attendance@easthamptonct.org

EHMS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org

EHHS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org

If you have successfully emailed the school, you will receive an autoreply that notifies you that the absence communication has been received and recorded. This process is effective for your child for the first 9 absences. After your student has more than 9 absences, additional documentation or communication is required to excuse the absence. However, please continue to use the email designated for your child's school to continue to notify the school that your child will be absent. You may call your child’s school at any time to report an absence but please make sure to follow up a phone call with a note or email to the attendance email.

    Nurse's Corner

Also, just a friendly reminder to have your child bring lip balm with them to school, if needed. This year has been tough for those lips!

Nutrition is so important for growth and development. Please be sure that your student is bringing enough snacks for themselves and remind them to eat breakfast and lunch. As a reminder, the school offers breakfast and lunch, free of charge for all families.

Is anyone else having Spring Fever?! If we aren’t going to be getting snow, then bring on Spring!

If at any point you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at khafele@easthamptonct.org or call the school office at 860-365-4060.

    Thank you!
