Mustang Minute
Friday, September 23rd
From the Principals' Offices
It's been a GREAT week at Brookwood once again! Students are now settling into their daily routines and it is great to see all of the learning taking place! Our students in K-5 have been busy working on building their stamina in independent reading. Congratulations to Mrs. Nast's 3rd grade class for reaching their 15 minute goal and a shout out to Ms. Bartucci's and Mrs.Erickson's 4th grade classes for already reaching their classwide goal of all students engaged in sustained silent reading for 30 minutes! This is HUGE!
Mrs. Fitzsimmons has been conducting "Minute Meetings" with every student at the elementary school. This allows her to have individual conversation to see how they are adjusting to a new school year.
Students in Mrs. Kanthack's 8th grade science classes are engineering; using various bottles, cardboard, sticks, styrofoam, pipe cleaners and more! They are working together to design and build functional cars! Students in Ms. Mohr's classes are busy building their interpersonal conversation skills in Spanish - it is awesome to see them being challenged to use Spanish to interact with the teacher and each other during class time! And, our young artists in 4th and 5th grade are creating abstract art pieces grouping shapes, lines, and objects. Their finished products will be hung in the art hallway at BMS in the coming weeks.
Don't forget that tonight is our annual Glow Run event! This is a super fun event that is fun for all members of the family. Registration starts at 6:30pm and the run begins at 7pm. The cost is $5 per individual or $10 per family. Be sure to dress is neon so that you GLOW!
There are several more exciting events and happenings in the coming weeks. Please note that opportunities involving parent participation and volunteering during the school day, such as our upcoming Gold Walk and Physical Fitness Days, require some paperwork and a background check to be done in advance. Please read on for more details.
Have a fantastic weekend, Mustangs!

What a wonderful week of Brookwood athletics! The cross country team has been running their hearts out at each meet and performing well. They have a meet tonight at Badger - come out and support your Mustangs!
The softball teams also pulled out victories last night against Lakewood! The Boys A team won 30-1, and the girls A team tied at 3-3 while the B team won 6-5. They were all exciting games to watch! We will have a busy week next week as we’ve rescheduled both of our games that were rained out. We will be playing Randall at home on Monday, September 26th, and Riverview at Riverview on Wednesday, September 28th. We also have a game Tuesday at Trevor-Wilmot. We appreciate your flexibility during this rainy softball season and hope to see you there cheering on our Mustangs!
Our online spiritwear store is up and running! Please use the link below to order for all sports at Brookwood Middle School! This online store will be open until October 28th - no late orders accepted. All orders will be delivered to me to hand out at school unless you select the “ship to home” option at checkout. We will have another spiritwear store open during the month of January.
