Winter Reminders
With winter here and the weather changing, Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District would like to remind families of the District’s process used in making determinations about school closings. Schools are dismissed early or closed due to inclement weather, or other emergencies, when necessary to protect the safety and welfare of students and staff.
The District resides in a snow-belt and most storms can be managed effectively. For this reason, please assume school will be open and encourage students to be prepared for their next day’s studies. We understand that a decision to open or close in bad weather will have an impact on our families.
We consider many factors while making these decisions, including:
- Current and projected weather conditions.
- Road patrols that report the condition of local roads, sidewalks and parking lots, taking into account snow and ice, as well as other hazards such as downed trees or power lines. These reports also provide an assessment of the progress of snow clearing.
- The District also communicates with local districts about the road conditions in surrounding areas.
- Temperature and wind chill factors. Monroe and Livingston County Health Department recommends that we consider closing schools if the wind chill is expected to fall between -25 and -40 degrees.
When it is necessary to close or dismiss schools for any emergency, including inclement weather, announcements are made on local radio and television broadcasts as early as possible. The information is also communicated to parents through the notification system and posted on the District’s website.
When school is closed for the day or dismissed early, all evening school activities will be cancelled, including athletic practices and contests, club meetings and any other student after-school activities. The only exception would be a major District-wide event, such as a concert involving hundreds of students, which could be held if the weather clears sufficiently.
With a District compromising 3 counties and 96 square miles we can have different conditions at many locations. We appreciate your pre planning and preparation each year as we continue to operate our schools.
HF-L CSD Partners with Paper
The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District is happy to continue its partnership with Paper, a digital tutoring service. This service is available to all HF-L students in grades 4-12 and will provide free, unlimited access to virtual tutoring sessions. These sessions are 1:1 and are available 24 hours a day. Students can access this using their ClassLink portal.
Using Paper, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps. Administrators have visibility into where support is needed.

Mendon Youth Center
The Town of Mendon is pleased to announce the availability of a shuttle from the Honeoye Falls Lima Middle School to the Town of Mendon Youth Center at the end of the school day, Monday through Thursday. Transportation will be provided by HF-L buses and will require a note or email to the middle school office by 10AM from parents giving permission for the students to ride that afternoon.
The Mendon Youth Center, located at 15 Monroe Street (the old library), was created as a space where the district's middle schoolers could come and gather with friends to socialize, play games, or just hang out after school. A full Staff will be on site during all business hours (M-Th 2-6pm) so parents can be rest assured that it will be a safe, positive space with supervision.
