Our Community Matters
As you may have seen in the news, the city of Portland is working at its fullest capacity to help new families arriving in our community. We want to express how incredibly grateful we are to our teachers and staff for their tireless work and dedication as Rowe continues to welcome new students.
Right now, more than ever, our community matters. We know it's March, the winter drags on, and we're all juggling a lot. But we all benefit greatly from being part of a connected community.
Whether you spend 45 minutes to help at our March 11 Family Potluck, donate a dozen muffins to our March 17 Staff Coffee, purchase a $5 ticket to our Calendar Raffle, or help out with SpringFest, it all makes a big difference. Our staff deserves our support, and our students will cherish memories of their time at Rowe!
April's Awesome Calendar Raffle Tickets On Sale Now
Now through March 28, purchase raffle tickets for our calendar of prizes to be drawn every day in April. Packets were sent with students earlier this week. Didn’t see yours come home? No worries, you can download instructions and tickets to print and return to Rowe School, either to your student’s classroom or the office.
Tickets are also available for online purchase – and we’re thrilled to report that you can enter a credit card for all online PTO purchases (you’re no longer limited to PayPal)!

March 11 - Rowe Family Potluck
Join us on Saturday, March 11 from 4-6 at the Rowe Family Potluck! Bring your favorite dish to share, but please know that you don’t need to bring anything to attend.
Mr. Shaddox will be our DJ -- CLICK HERE to request your favorite song (or three) by March 9. We’ll have kids’ activities in the gym and a “Book Tasting” hosted by Rowe staff in the library.
The PTO will be selling Spirit Wear and tickets for April’s Awesome Calendar Raffle.
As always, it takes a community to make events like this possible. Please visit the Signup Page to volunteer – shifts are short, only 45 minutes. We appreciate your support!

March 16 - PTO Meeting
Our next PTO meeting will be Thursday, March 16 from 6:30-8:00pm via Zoom. We’ll lead off the meeting with a Q&A with Interim Principal Jessica, and you can hear about community events we have planned this spring.
We also need to think about PTO leadership for 2023-24, and we’ll be making nominees at this meeting. We’ve got some great parents on board for next year, with a couple more spots to fill (more about that below). Click here to read the meetings from our December meeting.

2023-24 PTO Leadership
“I can’t wait to be a PTO Leader!” say not many people ever. However, we’ve got a great thing going here at Rowe, we’ve worked hard over the past couple of years to make the PTO into an efficient little nonprofit, and we’d love to see that momentum continue! We’ve also been able to recruit a lot more parents to help out at the event and committee level, meaning Executive Committee members don’t have to do the work of 5 people, as you might fear.
Below are the nominees we have for next year and details about the roles we need to fill. We hope you consider joining us and making a difference in our community!
Nominees:
PRESIDENT – Steph Walsh
SECRETARY – Audrey Bartholomew
Open Spots:
VICE PRESIDENT - The VP manages Room Parents, assists the president, and helps out with events as needed.
TREASURER – with current treasurer, Steph, stepping up as president, this is a great opportunity for someone to step into the role with a lot of hands-on guidance! The treasurer keeps track of the balance sheet, pays the bills, makes bank deposits, and files tax documents (minimal for a nonprofit our size).
COMMUNITY BUILDING CHAIR – Current chair, Kayla Theriault, has served for two years in the position, so according to PTO bylaws, the spot is open. But the great news is that Kayla is willing to come back as Co-Chair to help share the load with a fellow parent! The CB Chair oversees all teacher-appreciation activities and community-building events like the Rowe Family Potluck.
FUNDRAISING CHAIR – This year the PTO has focused on three major fundraising events---the Walk-a-Thon, Calendar Raffle, and SpringFest. It’s been successful and seems to be a good blueprint for next year. The great news is that we ALREADY have parents on board to lead or help out with those three events. So the Fundraising Chair can be more of an oversight role in addition to managing smaller fundraisers like Restaurant Nights, CLYNK, and the Print Book Fair.

Planning has begun for SpringFest!

Don’t worry - there will also be lots of opportunities to volunteer on the day of SpringFest - stay tuned!

Classroom Library Wish Lists - Still live!
Last fall’s book fair raised almost $500 in store credit with Print. Right before break, we had the pleasure of using that credit to purchase two more books from EVERY wish list for EVERY classroom. It was quite fun to give the teachers a nice surprise in their mailboxes and wouldn’t have been possible without your book purchases last fall.
As a reminder, classroom Library Wish Lists at Print: A Bookstore will remain live throughout the school year. Simply choose “curbside pickup” at checkout and we’ll do the rest! Teachers have been thrilled and grateful to have their classroom libraries expanded. Thank you for your continued support!

Your Donations at Work
❤️❤️KINDNESS WEEK!❤️❤️
When we heard about the need for craft supplies for Kindness Week, we knew it was a perfect use for some of our extra enrichment funds this year. Anytime we can do something for the WHOLE SCHOOL it’s pretty special.
From 3D printing materials for the fifth graders, to embroidery floss for the fourth graders, to stickers for the first graders, to construction paper for the kindness chain, and everything in between! (Glue sticks, so many glue sticks!)
YOUR donations helped make it a really fun, creative, special week for our kids. As always, thank you for your generous donations!
And be kind to one another. ❤️
Snacks Needed
Rowe is always in need of classroom snacks! Please visit our Snack Wish List to have items sent directly to the school, or drop off any of the following individually packaged items in the Rowe office:
Goldfish crackers, granola bars, cereal bars, squeezable applesauce, fruit cups, popcorn, fruit snacks (low sugar), peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, graham crackers.
