Welcome back...finally! Who knew that when we left for Spring Break 2020, that we wouldn't see students back in our building until September 8? While we were able to interact with some of you via Zoom in the Spring, this year will look much different. Whether your students are joining us in person or via CFISD Connect, it will be a highly engaging year. There are many new procedures that will ensure the safety of our staff and students. We do not expect these procedures to be permanent; however, they are necessary at this time.

For the 2020 - 2021 school year, we are expecting 917 students. Currently, 472 students will attend in person and 445 students will attend virtually through CFISD Connect. Our school hours are 8:40 - 4:10. Attendance will be taken daily for both in-person and CFISD Connect students. Grading guidelines will be the same as they were before COVID-19.

If you are new to Farney, welcome to an amazing school community! We are #MissionPossible. I am looking forward to my tenth year as principal of Farney Elementary. We have a school with incredible students, staff, and families.

This newsletter is our primary way to communicate on a regular basis. Please read through this Falcon Flyer for very important first-day information. I will continue to keep you updated with regular Falcon Flyer Newsletters until we feel the need to go back to our regular posting every two weeks. I don't want you to be overwhelmed with emails; however, I want you to be informed. There has been a pattern of information changing frequently, so I will communicate as often as necessary to keep you up-to-date.

We hope you had a great Virtual Meet the Teacher experience. We cannot wait to CONNECT (virtually or face to face) with our students.

• Unfortunately, parents will not be able to walk their children to their classrooms on the first day of school. However, our staff and some first-day volunteers (who have been safely screened) will assist students to make sure they arrive at their classroom safely.
• It would be very helpful to place a nametag on your child with their name and their teacher's name.
• Transportation for the first day should be the same as it will be all year. It can cause confusion for the students and staff when transportation is changed.
• All students and staff are required to wear a mask at school. Students who do not have a mask upon arrival will be given one to wear before they enter the building.
• We are unable to receive lunch drop-offs for safety reasons. Please be sure that your child has money in their lunch account in the event they forget their lunch. You may set up an account here if needed: https://www.cfisd.net/en/parents-students/food-service/cafeteria-account-parent-online
• Your child will need to bring a labeled WATER BOTTLE.

Spirit Days will be on FRIDAYS! Whether you are at school or at home we hope you join us in showing your Falcon pride!! The Farney PTO Spirit Shop is open and ready to help you get the spirit wear you need for this year! Our Current Spirit Shirt (20 Years of Soaring) is a pre-order item. Orders will be taken for this shirt (in all 5 styles) until September 22nd. Orders will be delivered in mid-October. Breakfast and lunch options will be limited at this time. Breakfast choices will include the hot entree of the day or yogurt, and lunch options will include the hot entree or a sandwich with Sunbutter. The menus are shown below on the link, "What's Cooking in September?" Cookies and ice cream will not be available until further notice.

As a reminder, we are unable to accommodate any lunch visitors. This will be reevaluated next semester.
