OLHMS Hosts Veterans Day Assembly

Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School recently hosted a Veterans Day Assembly for all the commmunity and all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. OLHMS staff welcomed local area vets to honor their sacrifice and service to our country. Student Ambasadors welcomed vets to the ceremony and the program started with the posting of colors by the Richards High School ROTC.

Thank You Veterans

On Thursday November 10, 2022, Hometown Elementary held its annual Veteran's Day assembly. Local Veterans were invited to attend this program honoring their time served in either the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The program was led by principal Amanda Bencik, and included contributions from each grade level.

Sward Veterans Day Ceremony

On Friday, November 11 Sward School held a Veterans Day Ceremony to honor the service and sacrifice for the men and women of the Armed Forces.

PBIS Celebration

As the end of the trimester approches, students and staff like to take time to reflect. Teachers want to celebrate all of the successes and accomplishments students had in first trimester. That is exactly what the PBIS celebration is for! Last Friday, students mixed with other classrooms and grade levels to complete various activities.

OLHMS Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Students and staff at OLHMS participated in a "PINK" day to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. The halls of OLHMS were decorated with pink signs and everyone wore their favorite pink outfit. Staff brought in pink treats to enjoy including pink lemonade, pink cookies, pink cupcakes, pink candy, and more!

Sock-Tober

Sward's Student Council launched Sock-tober collecting socks to provide warmth to those in need. For 3 weeks, they challenged each classroom to donate socks to help the local homeless population. Mrs. Katalinic stated, "Our goal was to collect 500 pairs of socks. We discussed if each student at Sward donated one pair we could easily reach our goal.

Unity Day- We stand against bullying

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022 District 123 schools joined together to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students wore the color orange to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Research shows that more than one out of every five students will be bullied in school this year (www.pacer.org).

First Graders First Field Trip

On Friday, October 28th, Kolmar 1st graders took their first ever field trip! They went to a Pumpkin Patch and had an unbelievable time! It was the first time a few students had been on a school bus, and all of their first field trip, so it was all very exciting!

Printmaking in Art Class

5th graders have been busy at work learning how to print make in Art class. Printmaking is an artistic process based on transferring images from one surface to another. Students loved the process of being able to make their own unique robot to then be able to make multiple prints of it with this unqiue process.
