MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome Back!

Happy August Lakeview Families,

I still cannot believe that we have arrived at the end of summer. I hope that you and your family had a relaxing vacation filled with laughter, love, and fun! For me and my family, this summer proved to be one of reflection, transition, and growth. We learned, laughed, cried, and remained faithful that the Solon community is exactly where we are meant to be. I cannot thank this community enough for embracing myself and my family with open hearts and supportive hands! We are truly grateful to be a part of such an amazing community, and we look forward to continuing to grow with each and every one of you.

As I embark on my 3rd year in Solon, I am excited for the continued journey with the Lakeview staff, students, and families. It is an honor to be a part of such a forward thinking and hardworking team of educators! The Lakeview team looks forward to another school year, helping all students grow as life-longer learners and individuals!

Remember that my door is always open. Feel free to email, call, or stop by with any questions you may have for the anticipated school year.

Take care and see you soon!

Ms. Tabor

DISTRICT MITIGATION UPDATE

Mitigation

The district will continue to follow Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance. The IDPH most recent guidance on COVID19 and other illnesses can be found in this link. It is important to monitor your child for symptoms and keep your child home if symptoms are evident as directed by public health.

Iowa law prevents mandating mask use, but the district welcomes their use by those choosing to wear them. We encourage everyone to consult with your personal family physician or health care provider with decisions related to COVID19 and other childhood illnesses.

BG/K-3 PARENT DROP OFF/PICK-UP PROCEDURES

Here are just a few reminders regarding drop off/pick up procedures at Lakeview.

  • Parent vehicles should stay within the cones when pulling up to the front of the building
  • Be mindful of all crosswalks and drive slowly as children may be crossing
  • Parents who park should plan on meeting their child(ren) behind the fence, up by the pine trees (parents should not pass the pine trees)
  • BG/K-3rd grade students will be standing, by grade level, on the south side of the building. Parents can pull up between the cones and their child(ren) will be brought to their vehicle by a staff member
  • Please wait for a staff member to bring your child(ren) to your vehicle

We appreciate your cooperation as it helps with traffic flow and increased student safety!

PRESCHOOL DROP OFF/PICK OFF PROCEDURES

Drop Off Routine:

An adult must walk with the child in and sign them in their classroom binder. Siblings cannot drop preschool students off without a parent/adult present. Here is a coy of the drop off map.

Pick Up Routine:

Here is a copy of the pick up map. Preschool siblings that are also parent pick up will go to the PreK line and not the front of the building.

PRESCHOOL START DATE & HOME VISITS

Preschool does not start school until Wednesday, August 25th (this is 2 days after the rest of the school).

On Monday, August 23rd and Tuesday, August 24th preschool teachers will schedule a home visit with your family to give further information about the program, answer your questions, and meet your child in their familiar environment.

A sign up genius will come out in August for you to select a time and date for your home visit.

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE (MRS. ELIJAH)

Preschool & Kindergarten Updates:

Regardless of which learning opportunity your family chooses (on-site or on-line), all state required forms are due by the first day of school for your child to attend public education.

If you are unable to complete these state requirements due to insurance or delays of appointments due to COVID-19, please contact me to discuss minimal requirements to start school on time.

3rd Grade Updates:

All students entering 3rd grade are required to complete a vision screening. To be valid, a vision screening shall be performed no earlier than one year prior to the date of enrollment and no later than six months after the date of child’s enrollment into Third Grade. A vision screening may be conducted by a physician, advanced nurse practitioner, physician assistant, local public health department, public or accredited nonpublic school, community based organization—Lions Club, free clinic, or child care center.

Please contact me with any questions about these state requirements.
