Galileo PTA
Welcome back to school for the 2022-23 School Year! We are excited to begin again and look forward to seeing you and your students get involved in new ways this year!
There are lots of ways to get involved as a student and as an adult too! See our website for more information.
Being part of the Galileo PTA is a great way to be involved in our school, help fulfill needs for teachers, and provide fun opportunities for our students. We are looking for someone to join our board as Recording Secretary. If you are interested in the position, please contact the Galileo PTA at galileostempta@gmail.com.
We need volunteers in two programs
MEET THE MASTERS
The Galileo PTA runs an art program called "Meet the Masters", in which volunteers go into the classroom to teach students about a master artist and conduct a step-by-step art project that mimics that artist's style and composition. The "Meet the Masters" program provides a slide deck, talking points, and step-by-step instructions to teach our students about these master artists.
We are looking for two (or more) volunteers to be art parents in each of our classrooms this year.
- You do not have to have ANY art experience (or talent) to help with this activity.
- The in-class time commitment is about 1.5 hours total
- We teach 5 artists per year. This year, we would like to teach one artist between September and November, and then one artist a month from January - April
This is a wonderful way to be involved in your child's classroom, and the art projects are so rewarding. If you are interested in helping with this program, please sign up HERE.
RUNNING AND WALKING CLUB
This is a program provided for all Galileo students, with no sign-up required. The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 11:30 - 1:00. Volunteers stand outside along the school "track" (the sidewalk that circles the field), and scan participating students' R&W club tags. We will take anyone interested in volunteering and set a schedule to make sure everyone gets a turn.
Botball (4th-8th grade)
If your student is interested in applying for a spot on the team, we are accepting applications until September 14th on a first come, first serve basis. We have eight Junior Botball and two Senior Botball spots available.
Applications are found on the PTA website or click here. The link will bring you to a Microsoft Form.
If you are a computer science engineer or mechanical engineer and would be interested in working with Galileo's competitive robotics teams on Tuesdays from 4 PM to 5:30 PM, we would love to have you join us. We code autonomous robots in C coding language and compete with local teams throughout the year and globally each summer. If you are interested, please contact Gina Kwid at kwid.gina@westada.org.
Galileo Give Week
Galileo Band and Orchestra
The first concert for band and orchestra is on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 for orchestra and 7:00 for band.
5th-8th grade - McCall Outdoor Science School
Mrs. Sonersen is once again thinking of taking a group of middle school students to science camp this coming summer but needs to know if there is enough interest. We could go the week of June 19th and the cost will be about $300 per student. Science camp is for students who are presently in grades 5-8. If you are interested in this possibility, please contact Mrs. Sonersen so she can gauge the amount of interest. sonersen.elisabeth@westada.org
