TEA has developed the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Alternate 2 assessment to meet the federal requirements mandated under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), a federal education law previously known as No Child Left Behind. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) designed the STAAR Alternate 2 to assess students in grades 3–8 and high school who have significant cognitive disabilities and are receiving special education services.
Students taking STAAR ALT 2 will be tested by their classroom teachers during the school day with accommodations as indicated in their IEP.

TELPAS and TELPAS ALT
TELPAS
Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System
TELPAS assesses the progress that Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, also referred to as English Learners (ELs) or Emergent Bilinguals (EB), make in learning the English language.
All EB students in kindergarten through grade 12 are required to participate in TELPAS, including students classified as limited English proficient (LEP) in the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) whose parents have declined bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) program services. EB students are required to take TELPAS annually until they meet bilingual/ESL program exit criteria and are reclassified as non-LEP. (TEA) Students who reach an accumulative score on TELPAS of "Advanced High" and do not receive testing accommodations on STAAR EOCs in the same year are eligible for reclassification to no longer participate in annual TELPAS or TELPAS Alternate testing.
TELPAS ALT
CONTACT arbrown@weatherfordisd.com with questions about TELPAS ALT.
Similar to STAAR ALT 2, TELPAS Alternate meets federal requirements mandated under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), a federal education law previously known as No Child Left Behind to assess ELs with significant cognitive disabilities that are receiving special education services.
