Principal's Letter
Aloha Hickam Families,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. As we come to the end of the 2nd quarter, I wanted to point to a couple of changes to our bell schedule. On Wednesday, December 20th, our school day will end later at 2:10 p.m. On Thursday, December 21st, our school day will end earlier at 1:10 p.m. This will be the last of the 2nd quarter. Otherwise our HES Ohana wishes you a great end to the 2nd quarter, and a safe and relaxing holiday break. Take care!
Sincerely,
Patrick Wetzel
Principal
Vice Principal's Letter
Aloha HES Ohana,
What a great month we had in November! Thank you to all the parents, staff members and volunteers who helped with so many wonderful events and class activities. This month, we will continue to focus on safety and academic instruction at HES. Also, as a reminder during winter break, please have your child read for 20 minutes or more each day. As you know, reading is a powerful tool for building creativity and imagination, but also requires practice and consistency.
Hopefully years from now, during the holiday season, you and your child(ren) will remember these wonderful times spent together. Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year from our HES family to yours!
Kindly,
Ms. Jones
Vice Principal

Choose Love - Social Emotional Learning Unit
Hickam Elementary School's Social Emotional Learning program is called Choose Love. This quarter we are focusing on Gratitude. Gratitude is "mindful thankfulness and the ability to be thankful even when things in life are challenging. Practicing Gratitude has many health benefits including better sleep, increases self-esteem and can even expand our life-span. All of this leads to greater happiness."

Student Council Service Project: Toys for Tots
Thank you so much to our school community for participating in the Student Council's Toys for Tots Drive. Your donations will significantly impact keiki in receiving a little Christmas joy this year.
Honolulu Navy League and Friends of Windward Wounded Warriors were able to teach our students more about the Wounded Warriors mission and how this drive helps children in our local area.
With the help of our community, students collected multiple boxes of toys this year. Again, thank you for your donations on behalf of the Student Council.
