Greetings Mustangs!

It certainly is GREAT to Be Brookwood these days! The halls of BMS have been filled with the sounds of music as our Annie Jr. Cast & Crew have been rehearsing nonstop for our big performances this week! All students K-8 were able to enjoy daytime dress rehearsal performances on Thursday and Friday, and the kids were all fantastic! We've got one performance left tonight, at 7pm at BMS! If you haven't seen it yet, we hope you will join us!

The 3rd graders traveled up to BMS to get their first taste of what life is like in the middle school! Not only did they enjoy watching Annie Jr, but they were able to spend some time learning math alongside our 4th graders, playing at recess, and of course eating lunch! We'd like to extend a huge thank you to our teachers and staff who go above and beyond in working together to support this transition for our students.

Forward testing is officially finished! With state testing now behind us, we are elated to being thinking of all of the FUN up ahead. From field trips to dances to the Fun Fair to graduation, May is sure to go by in an absolute whirlwind. This past week, select students in grades 4-8 at BMS participated in the Screen Door Production of Annie Jr! Our students did six total performances, to include four dress rehearsals, entertaining nearly our entire K-8 students and staff, and a large portion of our Brookwood community. HUGE kudos to Mrs. Kanthack, Mrs. Mosansky, and Mrs. Mohr for all of their work in preparing our students for GREATNESS as young actors, actresses, dancers, singers, artists, and crew members! And, congratulations to all of our participants for a job well done! Way to make us all Mustang Proud!

Last Saturday, our male students and their mothers/other VIP guests had a blast at the BFO sponsored Glow Party! Participants enjoyed dancing, contests, glow games, glow basketball, pizza, nachos, and even an ice cream sundae bar. Fun was had by all! Thank you, BFO, for all of your hard work in putting this special event together for us. We appreciate you!

As a reminder, we will be completing our Spring testing in the coming weeks. Students in grades 4-7 will participate in MAP testing and select students in grades 6-8 will participate in I-Ready testing as a part of our spring pilot. Although these tests are not state mandated, the results are used to inform programming for ALL students, from interventions to enrichments. Thank you for your help in speaking to your children about Being Brookwood during tests, being respectful of others during this time, and always trying their best. We appreciate your support!

Ms. Schleusner has passed the ever coveted Golden Horseshoe on to...Mr. Krisik! According to Ms. Schleusner, Mr. Krisik works so hard to take care of BES. But what really stands out is the personal relationships he makes with students and staff. He knows each child by name and always makes time to have a conversation, or just to listen. Thank you for being awesome Mr. Steve! We appreciate you!

Students in 6th grade are currently competing in an Engineering Olympics. Each team gets one chance each class period to do their best to earn points building different engineering challenges. Pictured are students building various civil engineering activities, from building the tallest skyscrapers, to bridges that can span the greatest distance or hold the most weight. The civil engineering events end with a challenge to build a multi story building that can withstand both a minor and major earthquake. The Engineering Olympics events will end with some aeronautical engineering challenges. The winning team will be determined by the highest combined team score upon completing all ten engineering events. Awesome job, Mr. Granahan, and 6th Graders!

Third grade students had a fun trip to the middle school on Thursday. Students were invited to watch a performance of Annie Jr. Students then traveled to Mrs. Erickson and Ms. Bartucci's fourth grade classrooms. Students were also given a tour of the building by Mrs. Franz. It was such a fun experience and a great opportunity for our third grade students to get comfortable at the middle school. It is hard to believe we will be sending off our third graders in just a few weeks.

Our track athletes have been working hard in preparation for their first meet! Come out to support your Mustangs on May 3rd!

If you are still holding onto an athletics uniform from a previous sport, please get those turned in ASAP.

Do you have a 3rd grader who will be a Brookwood 4th grader in the '23-'24 school year? If so, we hope you'll consider coming to our 4th Grade Academy! Meet the 4th grade teachers and other VIP staffers! Take a tour of the building! Learn about a day in the life of a 4th grade student! And, have your questions answered! We hope you'll join us for this informational night. This is an event for parents only - onsite child care will be available. See you there!

Academic Lab will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when school is in session.

• Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.

• At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.

• Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.

• Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.

• The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).

Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.

Eighth Grade Graduation will be held on Thursday, June 1st! Once again, we are excited to announce that we will be partnering with our friends from Ed Clark Photography to help our 8th Grade families capture this milestone event. Throughout the school year Brookwood has many opportunities for parents to partner with the school through volunteering. Some of these will include, but not limited to, chaperoning field trips, assisting during classroom activities, large school or district wide events, etc. To ensure the safety of all our students, all volunteers need to submit and pass a background check. These forms can be completed ahead of time and individuals will be added to the approved volunteer list. This is good for the school year. If you intend to volunteer, feel free to complete the attached forms and send the forms to your child's school office. Thank you for your cooperation and involvement.
