Davis Elementary Principal's Newsletter
September 3, 2023
Dear Davis Families,
It was great to see so many of you at Back to School Night last Thursday! Teachers worked hard to prepare for your visit to the classroom, and our hope is that you left with helpful information about what to expect this year.
We have started classroom morning meeting lessons and grade level assemblies focused on 'The Davis Way'. This week, our K-2nd grade students are learning about kindness, while our 3rd-5th grade students are learning about what it means to be reflective and compassionate. I thought it would be helpful to include information about The Davis Way in this newsletter so you all are aware of the character traits, knowledge, and skills that we are working to develop in all Davis students.
You'll also see an opportunity below to submit recipes for our Davis International Cookbook. This will be a compilation of recipes from Davis families and staff. We have such a diverse school community and this will be a great way for everyone to share a little bit about their culture by sharing recipes!
Later this week, we will have our first CAC meeting of the year. All CAC meetings are open for anyone to attend and there is always a 'citizen's communication' opportunity on the agenda for anyone in attendance to bring up ideas, questions, or issues related to our campus. See below for agenda items that we will be discussing at this month's CAC meeting.
I hope you all are enjoying the holiday weekend. Thank you for being a part of Davis!
Warm regards,
Jenny Daniels Principal, Davis Elementary

Davis Details
The Davis Way
The Davis Way is the foundation of our school culture. It includes our Habits of Character and Graduate Profile Habits of Scholarship.
Habits of Character: Kindness, Responsibility, Empathy, Perseverance, Curiosity
Habits of Scholarship: Knowledgeable, Critical Thinker & Problem Solver, Reflective & Compassionate, Creator & Innovator, Culturally Competent Citizen
The Davis Way provides a framework for ensuring a safe, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment. All Davis staff model The Davis Way and work to empower students to develop and demonstrate The Davis Way every minute of every day. Students are recognized during class meetings and grade level assemblies for demonstrating behaviors and showing leadership that exemplify The Davis Way. Our goal for our students is that when they progress from Davis to middle school that they embody the Habits of Character and are equipped with the Habits of Scholarship to ensure their many future successes.
DAVIS INTERNATIONAL COOKBOOK: We want your recipes!
We are excited to invite you to contribute to the Davis Elementary School International Cookbook- a passport to the diverse cuisines that our Davis families and staff represent.
This cookbook will be more than recipes; it will be a celebration of the global tapestry of the Davis community. Through dishes that hold the stories of Davis families and staff, we aim to foster unity and appreciation among students, families, and staff, while also providing lots of delicious recipes from around the world for you to try.
The deadline to submit recipes is October 25. More details will follow about plans for publishing the cookbook and making it available to our school community.
