Just a reminder - Wednesday, November 24 is a half day of school for students. Phelps will dismiss at 12:20 p.m.

It is hard to believe, but the first trimester is coming to an end next week! It seems like just yesterday that students were walking into school for the first time this year.

The 1st marking period closes on Wednesday, November 24.

Printed copies of report cards are expected to go home on Friday, December 10.

Thank you so much for all of your generosity in donating food for the Mayflower Marathon. Thanks to all of you, we are donating over 2,000 food items to the open pantry next week!!!

We will still take donations through the end of the school day on Monday.

Congratulations to Amine Gunay in Mrs. Galaska's room for designing the winning t-shirt! There were 55 entries and it was not an easy decision! We appreciate all of the hard work and time that everyone put into their designs. Amine's design has gone to printer and we can't wait to see the final product.

The fourth grade student council had their first meeting on 11/17. During this meeting, students worked together to create their vision for the 2021-2022 school year; "By being kind, helpful, and responsible, we serve as role models and leaders to the students of Phelps School". The group then worked together to brainstorm some initiatives to help improve Phelps School. Some ideas included organizing a playground clean up day, creating a play that addresses our school motto of being responsible, respectful and safe, as well as community outreach activities.

On Friday, November 19, members of the Agawam Fire Department came to Phelps to talk with students about fire safety in the home. Students learned about smoke and carbon dioxide detectors, how to safely exit, what to do when there is smoke or fire in the home, how to stop-drop-and-roll, and were encouraged to make evacuation plans as a family.

Picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, November 23. If you have pictures that you do not like, students should bring that packet to school with them. Retake day is also a day for students that were absent on the original date to have an opportunity to have their picture taken. Here is a link to the order form.

The Eighth Annual Phelps Elementary School Holiday Concert will be taking place Monday December 13, 2021 at the Agawam Junior High School 1305 Springfield Street Feeding Hills. Students are asked to arrive by 5:20pm to the stage, with the concert starting at 5:30. This performance will be a celebration of the holidays, our children, and the joy of music in our community! The show will feature holiday tunes that are whimsical and filled with fun. The experience and excitement of the performing arts is one that every child should be a part of at least once in their lives. When a person performs, they share a piece of their heart and they gain confidence in themselves. Students have been working hard for months to put this together. We have noticed that a number of parents are parking across the street at dismissal to avoid getting into the carline. We do our best to move the afternoon carline as quickly and efficiently as possible. We ask that families do not park across the street and dismiss their child as a walker. Because there is no crosswalk, we want to ensure that everyone is safe. Thank you for your understanding.

Parents are now welcome to come into the building to sign in late students or for students being dismissed. We will no longer be meeting students at the door or letting them in without a parent/guardian. As a reminder - masks are required for all visitors to Phelps (masks are available for those without one).

Students at Phelps honored and thanked our veterans by making cards that were sent to the Holyoke Soldiers Home. We want to thank all veterans in our Phelps Families for their service to our country!

A huge thank you to all of you for your donations and volunteering! The Trunk or Treat and the election day bake sale were a HUGE success thanks to you!
