Hyatt's October Updates

Dear Hyatt Elementary Families,

As we approach the two month mark of the 23-24 school year, one thing is for certain, our school community is truly amazing! The learning opportunities, arts, clubs, athletics, district resources, coupled with community support, provide immense advantages to our children. We are extremely thankful for our partnership and shared commitment to fostering a love for learning. Developing perspective, self-confidence, and a little grit along the way, encourages a positive mindset and belief that we can do hard things even when we can't do them YET!

In the coming months, we will continue to strengthen this mindset through our classroom lessons and conversations with your children. There will also be numerous experiences for them to explore and expand their knowledge, which is always exciting! We will continue to encourage our families to be involved in their children's learning. We know that you are essential and significant to the development of the unique and loving personalities we all appreciate. Every Child Every Day!

Our parent teacher conferences are being held on October 18th and October 19th from 4:00-8:00 PM. Please contact your child's teacher to schedule a time to meet and discuss their progress. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, develop shared understanding, and collaborate around your child's success.

Although school attendance may occasionally be impacted by family obligations, vacations, and seasonal illness, attendance remains the most critical factor in school success. While we will continue to celebrate and encourage "family time," please keep school attendance a priority for your children. Developing routines and embedding expectations at a young age lends itself to improved health and success. Not to mention, we love to see your children every day as they add to discussions, strengthen each other's thinking and learning, and are part of the essence that makes Hyatt Elementary special!

The end of September was highlighted with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic activites for all of our children, as our wonderful P.A.L.S. group sponsored a two day visit from members of the SLOAN museum. This experience was exciting for all children and provided them with multiple hands-on activities that tested their ingenuity, and built real-life connections. In October there are numerous exceptional experiences for many of our Hyatt children occurring outside the classroom. We appreciate the commitment and support of our staff, families, and community to make these experiences happen!

The Scholastic Book Fair is returning to Hyatt the week of October 16th! Opportunities for the children to view and shop will occur during the week as well as at parent teacher conferences on the evenings of October 18th and 19th from 4:00-8:00 PM. The money earned from the book fair will be used to support, expand, and update our library titles.

The community walking and riding path is a wonderful resource. We love seeing families talking, walking and riding their bikes together. Please remind your children the importance of staying together and being aware of their surroundings, especially of the moving traffic. This a great time to teach them about traffic lights, cross-walks, right-of-way, and how you are making decisions while you are walking around town. Each experience is another opportunity to boost a child's confidence and knowledge, which will benefit them in the future. Go Eagles!

We are beginning to approach the cold and flu season, so please remind your children the importance of washing their hands, trying to keep their hands off their faces, covering their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and not sharing their food with others. These are proven strategies to reducing the spread of illness. Remember, a child with a fever or who is physically ill must stay home for at least 24 hours and be symptom free without medication before returning to school.

Also, as classroom parties are on the horizon, please remain cognizant of student allergies in your child’s classroom. Due to the severity of the reactions to some allergies we ask that all snacks, treats, are store purchased. If your child exhibits any symptom, you will be called to pick your child up from school.

In case you missed Picture Day, Picture Retakes are scheduled at Hyatt on Tuesday, October 24th.

It's hard to believe we are already planning for Halloween! Below are a few tidbits to help keep everyone in the loop regarding expectations and activities for Tuesday, October 31st. Please contact your child's teacher or the office with any questions.

• Children may wear their costumes to school.
• Face paint dries out the skin and will likely become an irritant as the day progresses, so it is recommended that you save this portion of the costume for trick-or-treating at home.
• Leave any "weapon like" accessories at home.
• Teachers will communicate information about their individual parties. Please only send in store bought treats due to possible food related allergies
• The Costume Parade will begin at 2:45 PM. Families are welcome to come and take pictures of their child. If you decide to take your child home afterwards, please make sure you stop by the office first to sign them out.

Linden Community Schools’ has implemented a Positive School Climate initiative. All buildings use the S.O.A.R. acronym. At Hyatt Elementary we Stay Safe, Offer Kindness, Act Responsibly, and Remember Respect. Each week we will focus on a new character trait utilizing the Positivity Project. Morning announcements, classroom lessons, and student recognition with SOAR tickets help to build understanding and reward desirable attributes in our school community.

Hyatt Elementary utilizes our website as a means of communication. Please visit our web page regularly at www.lindenschools.org. In addition to our web page, you can download the Linden Community Schools APP from your smartphone to receive updates and reminders. We will also use email and text messaging. You may contact your child’s teacher by email, telephone, or letter if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education or classroom activities.

Passes for visitors and volunteers are available in the office and provided once you have signed-in and should be worn at all times. This supports identification and supports building supervision. Appointments may be initiated by the parent or guardian and/or the school.

Volunteering at Hyatt Elementary is encouraged, as your time and efforts are greatly appreciated! All volunteers must have a background check completed before they may volunteer. If you are wanting to volunteer, you can pick up an ICHAT form in the office. Please remember photographs of other children are not permitted. If you have any questions or concerns, please share them with a staff member.

Students are to be dropped off in the front loop no earlier than 8:20 am until school begins at 8:34 am. Please do not park your car in the one-way loop; this is for moving traffic only. If you choose to walk your child to the front entrance, please park in the parking lot and use the crosswalk to the front of the school. Argentine Elementary houses Linden’s Eagle Club before and after school program for a minimal fee. If you need daycare for your student before 8:20 am, please call Argentine Elementary at (810) 591-0328.

Student dismissal is at 3:42 PM. Car pick up is the only option for students not riding the bus. If you need to make a transportation change, please contact the office before 3:00 pm. Due to the busyness at the end of the day, we can not guarantee changes will be made after that time.

Car Pick Up - Parents must pick up a “Parent Transport Card” from the office before a child will be released to them during dismissal. These cards will also be available at our Open House and must be visible/displayed in your vehicle. We ask that parents/guardians in the pick up/drop off line stay in their cars. This is for your convenience and helps us create an efficient and safer process. School staff will personally greet you and help your child get in your car.

All students who ride the bus, will be put on the bus at the end of the day unless they have established a regular, consistent parent/guardian pick up routine or you have sent a note to the teacher/office ahead of time. All changes must be made by 3:00 pm to ensure communication can take place. These procedures are in place for the safety of all of our students.

Thanks to our classroom parent volunteers and P.A.L.S., we are thrilled to continue to be able to offer delicious popcorn to our students. Please look over the upcoming dates below:
