National School Counseling Week is Feb. 5-9, 2024, and focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

La Vernia Intermediate is extremely fortunate to have Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Gibbs serve us as our campus counselors! There isn't a day that goes by that they aren't impacting the lives of others - students and adults alike! Join us in celebrating Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Gibbs and their many contributions to our campus.

Our Souper Bowl for Caring Food Drive kicks off Monday, January 29th! Students are encouraged to bring food items such as soups, canned veggies, peanut butter, beans, pasta/grains, canned fruit, and other like items to their homeroom class. All items will benefit the La Vernia Food Pantry!

Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, Feb 14th, this year. In the past, students have received many Valentine’s Day flowers, balloons, and large cookies. Valentine’s Day is a very special day for all of us; however, the many gifts sent to the school causes severe interruptions in our teaching and learning time. In addition, the transportation department will not allow balloons, glass vases, and/or large bouquets of flowers to be taken home on the bus. This becomes a safety issue. So, in order to not interrupt our teaching/learning time and/or create a safety concern on our buses, we are asking you to please refrain from sending Valentine’s Day gifts like these to school. Please celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with your children, as we will allow the classes time to celebrate here with each other in the classrooms. Thank you for your understanding.

Congratulations to our classes who received the Golden Platter Award! These classes exhibited excellent cafeteria behavior the last two weeks. They earned a picnic lunch outside with extra recess!

Third grade fun with Mrs. Henkes and Mrs. Hill’s classes:

-Playing a fun game of Kahoot to review adjectives and adverbs

Mrs. Bullard and Mrs. Stolowski’s classes have been working hard on text features, text structures, writing essays and biographies, and a weathering and erosion lab.

Mrs. Zatopek & Mrs. Pruski’s classes are having fun representing data using some yummy treats They are also comparing and contrasting a class study novel and finding simple/compound sentences.

Mia Montgomery from KSAT12 came to visit 5th grade students, and gave a presentation about weather and the meteorologist career. Students learned about the intricacies of her job and the components of a weather report.

La Vernia Intermediate offers several before school and after school clubs. Students have received information during campus announcements regarding signing up for clubs, where to find applications, and reminders to turn in applications. More clubs/UIL information will come out as it becomes available. We appreciate our teachers and staff volunteering their time to enrich our students!

Please don't discard your CarRider Pro car tag! Your family tag will work next year for returning students or incoming third graders with siblings already attending LV Intermediate.

If you lose your initial family tag issued in 2022-2023, you will need to purchase an additional tag for $5 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Incoming third graders with no siblings at the Intermediate and "new to LV" students will receive their first car tag at no charge.

All PTO meetings are held at 8:15. Please join our fabulous group of volunteers who make a HUGE contribution to our campus. We look forward to another amazing year!

Campus Expectations

1. Attendance

1. Please come to school everyday!

2. If you are absent, please be sure to bring in a note the day you return to school.

3. Tardies - If you are tardy, your parent must walk you into the office and sign you in.

2. Discipline

1. Be respectful and polite around the school (discuss what that looks like).

2. Misbehavior will be noted on calendars - could result in dhall, Saturday dhall…

3. The bus is an extension of the classroom. The same rules students follow at school apply to the bus. Misbehavior on the bus can result in a bus referral.

4. The campus restrooms are also an extension of the classroom. Get in, do your business, flush, wash your hands, throw the paper towel in the trash, and exit. Misbehavior in the bathroom can result in a referral and a visit to the office.

3. Dress Code

1. Hair needs to be kept neat and groomed. No unnatural hair color (green, blue, striped, etc.).

2. Half-shirts, crop tops, spaghetti straps, strapless shirts, razor-back shirts are not allowed.

3. Shorts and skirts should not be shorter than mid-thigh.

4. Hats, caps, or ski caps are not allowed to be worn (except with approval for special events).

4. School Clubs

1. Be on the lookout for information about school clubs on campus.

2. Garden club, Scrabble club, Spanish club, Ukulele club, GOOGLE club, art club, UIL, etc…

We also encourage you to join our campus Facebook page (La Vernia Intermediate School and La Vernia Intermediate PTO) and Remind (text @lvinter to 81010) for quick reminders and updates. A bi-monthly campus newsletter will be sent out via email which will include upcoming events and campus highlights. Please make sure your email address is up-to-date in our records. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also provide you with specific information regarding classroom and teacher communication. Parent portal access is a great tool to help you monitor your child’s grades and attendance. Once again, thank you for your partnership as we take on another great school year together!

Assessments have begun for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the TEKS presented in class.
